Davidson’s putback saves the day for Salem

SALEM — Ellie Davidson put back a rebound with 1.2 seconds left as Salem’s girls basketball team set down Marlington 51-50 on Wednesday in Northeastern Buckeye Conference play.

Marlington was handed one more chance to win the game but could not get a shot off in time.

Salem is 8-2 and 5-1 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

Echo Mayer-Kutz recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Quakers. Casey Johnson and Ellie Davidson contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. Allee Davidson-Chuck finished with 10 points and four steals.

Salem out-rebounded the Dukes, 31-26.

Robin Campbell led the Dukes with 35 points.

Salem won the two-quarter jayvee game, 16-3. Hayden Carner and Halle Cochran had three points each. Taylor Troy had three assists.

Salem is at Carrollton on Saturday afternoon.

ALLIANCE — West Branch stayed on top in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference with a 67-12 win over Alliance on Wednesday.

West Branch is 9-0 and 6-0 in the league. Alliance fell to 1-8, 0-5.

West Branch outscored the Aviators 22-0 in the first quarter.

All Warriors players scored.

Peyton Alazaus led the way with 12 points, while Natalie Zuchowski had 10 points and six rebounds.

West Branch won the jayvee game, 73-14.
