LISBON — The United boys basketball team maintained sole possession of first place in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference with a hard-fought 57-53 victory over Lisbon Tuesday.

Dakota Hill led the Eagles (9-3, 7-1 EOAC) with 20 points. Hill was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles also received 11 points from Kaden Smith and 10 points and eight rebounds from Alex Birtalan. Parker Hydrick dished out five assists.

United returns home Friday for a critical EOAC clash with Toronto, which is one game behind the Eagles.

Toronto beat Wellsville 74-54 Tuesday.

Lisbon falls to 6-5 overall and 3-5 in the EOAC. The Blue Devils were led by Ryan McCullough with 15 points, Justin Sweeney 13 and Brice Blackburn.

Sweeney and Branson Brownfield each had eight rebounds for Lisbon. Sweeney added seven assists.

Lisbon won the jayvee game 43-31. Michael Davis scored 17 points for the Blue Devils. Nate Miller led the Eagles with 11 points.

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana outscored East Palestine 19-12 in both the second and fourth quarters to finish off the Bulldogs, 59-51, Tuesday.

Jared Wilson had 17 points — nine in the fourth quarter — along with seven rebounds and six assists to guide the balanced Clippers. Erik Hopfenziz collected 16 points and five rebounds and Hunter Zentner 10 points and five rebounds. Matthew Mazei totaled 10 rebounds and four assists and Seth Ross six rebounds and three assists.

Columbiana improves to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. East Palestine moves to 6-6 and fall three games behind United in league play at 4-4.

For the Bulldogs, Branden Kmep scored 20 points and Clayton Murray 10.

Columbiana also won the junior varsity gmae, 44-29, as Sean Whitehead scored 10 points and Nate Whitehead grabbed 11 rebounds. Dominick Cathers had eight points for the Bulldogs.

Both teams play Friday as Columbiana hosts Southern Local and East Palestine entertains Lisbon.

LEETONIA–Southern rolled over Leetonia 65-48 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference boys basketball action Tuesday.

The Indians improve to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the EOAC, while the Bears fall to 2-9 overall and 1-7 in the EOAC.

Southern had four players in double digits, led by Jacob Joiner with 18 points and five assists. Dominic Pugliano added 15 points. Jayce Sloan and Max Hart had 12 and 11 points respectively. Sloan was the Indians’ top rebounder with 11. Hart had three blocks.

Roman Ferry led the Bears with 11 points. Tommy Kornbau added 10 points.

Southern won the jayvee game 46-35. Timmy West and Brady Tolson each had eight points for the Indians.

Southern is at Columbiana Friday.
