Bears come up dry against Tigers

LEETONIA –Justin Thirtyacre had three hits including two doubles with three RBIs as Wellsville cruised to a 7-0 win over Leetonia in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference game on Thursday.

Jeremy Barton added a double and single for the Tigers.

Leetonia fell to 0-4 and will be at Sebring on Saturday.

Canton South 3

SALEM — Salem’s baseball team beat Canton South 5-3 on Thursday thanks to a two-run home run by Shawn Chappell.

Salem is 4-2 overall and 1-3 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.

After Chappell’s homer tied the score in the first the Quakers put another two runs on the board in the second on a balk by Canton South starting pitcher Dalton Frey and a line drive single to left by senior Braydon Gibson, scoring Jake Maenz.

Starter Adam Wilson pitched seven strong innings, striking out six and walking none.

Salem is at United today.

BELOIT — West Branch got two hits including a double and home run with two RBIs from T.J. DeShields in its 4-2 win over Marlington on Thursday.

Seth Schroeder had a single and RBI for the Warriors, 6-1, 4-0.

Marlington fell to 6-1, 4-1.

AUSTINTOWN–The Columbiana baseball team fell to Austintown Fitch 16-4 Thursday in the opening of Fitch’s all-turf Coppola Field.

Columbiana falls to 3-5 overall. The Falcons broke the game open early with 11 runs in the first two innings.

Chase Franken had a double and a single for the Clippers. Ryan Fahs added an RBI double. Joe Bable and Michael Ginocchi each had singles.

Columbiana takes on Springfield at 7 p.m. today at Cene Park in Struthers.

SEBRING — Western Reserve beat Sebring 9-1 on Thursday.

Garrett Mihalick had three hits to pace the winners. Caleb Quinn had two hits and three RBIs.

South Range 20, Struthers 12

STRUTHERS–A high scoring affair went the way of South Range as it beat Struthers 20-12 on Thursday.

Offensively for the Raiders Brandon Youngs, Jake Gehring and Mike Cunningham each had two hits. Nick Habeth had three RBIs on the night.

South Range is now 3-6 and will host Howland today.
