Raiders put four past Quakers

GREENFORD — Quinn Pierson scored twice to lead South Range to a 4-0 win over Salem on Friday night in the boys soccer opener for both schools.

Logan Baer added a goal for the Raiders. The other Range goal was a Salem own goal.

Logan Weaver had two assists and Canaan Johnson added an assist tally.

Bryce Owen had 17 saves in goal for Salem.

“I’m very proud and excited for our boys,” Range coach Mike Bailey said. “They played well tonight and it was a great way to start of our season. We had some great play from our seniors Luke Stoeber, Zack Schick, and Logan Bear. They were in top form tonight and I couldn’t be happier for them to start off their senior season this way. We look forward to putting in the work to improve and put together a great 2018 campaign.”

South Range hosts Girard on Tuesday.

West Branch 1,

Barberton 0

BELOIT — West Branch’s boys soccer team beat Barberton 1-0 in the opener on Friday night.

Griffin Lough scored on a penalty kick. Jared Butler had five saves in goal for the Warriors.

The jayvee game was a 2-2 draw.

West Branch hosts Canfield on Wednesday.

Salem 2, United 0

SALEM — Salem’s girls soccer team topped United 2-0 on Friday night in the season opener at Reilly Stadium.

Ellie Davidson and Lydia McKee scored second half goals for the Quakers.

Maddie Breick had six saves for United.
