Salem, West Branch boys each fall
GIRARD — Girard scored two goals in the first half and held on to beat Salem, 2-1, in a Division II boys soccer sectional opener Tuesday at Arrowhead Stadium.
Girard will play at Hubbard at 3 p.m. Saturday in a sectional final.
Ursuline 4, West Branch 0
BELOIT — Youngstown Ursuline handed West Branch a 4-0 loss in a Division II boys soccer sectional opener Tuesday.
Ursuline will play at Howland at 3 p.m. Saturday in a sectional final.
East Palestine 10, Leetonia 3
EAST PALESTINE — Fifth-seeded East Palestine roared past 12th-seeded Leetonia 10-3 in Division III sectional soccer action Tuesday.
Josh Welch poured in five goals to lead the Bulldog effort, while Brady Kridler had two goals and two assists. Brandon Turcola added two goals and one assist.
Also for the Bulldogs, Blaze Egan had one goal and one assist, while Caden Rummel and Schaelee Guy each had one assist. Matt Garcia had eight saves in goal.
For Leetonia, Morgan Kane, Eli Duke and Cory Grabowski all had one goal.
The Bulldogs travel to fourth-seeded Hartville Lake Center Christian for a sectional final at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Jackson-Milton 0
EAST PALESTINE — The sixth-seeded Columbiana boys soccer team moved on with a 2-0 win over 11th-seeded Jackson-Milton in a Division III sectional opener Tuesday.
Gabe Heinrich scored both goals for the Clippers. Ashton Kakavros and Collin Schick each had one assist.
Keeper Chris Costanzo had 12 saves in goal. Nate Burnell added one save.
The Clippers travel to third-seeded United for a sectional final at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Crestview 2,
Rootstown 0
GREENFORD — The Crestview girls soccer team opened tournament play with a 2-0 victory over 10th-seeded Rootstown in a Division III sectional opener Tuesday at South Range High School.
Morgan Cresanto opened the scoring for the Rebels with an assist from Macy Shaffer. Emma Horne added a long-distance goal, with the assist going to Madison Lindsay.
Goalie Taylor Mellington got ample support from her defense on the way to the shutout. Mellington recorded eight saves in goal.
The game was originally scheduled for Monday at Crestview, but was moved due to standing water on the field.
Seventh-seeded Crestview is at second-seeded United for a sectional final at 7 p.m. Thursday.
St. Thomas Aquinas 6, Heartland 0
LOUISVILLE — Heartland Christian dropped a 6-0 decision to Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas in a Division III boys soccer sectional opener Tuesday.

ATWATER — Waterloo blanked Wellsville, 9-0, in a Division III boys soccer sectional opener Tuesday.
