Quakers go 4-0 on Tennessee trip
PIDGEON FORGE, Tenn. — Salem’s softball team wrapped up its spring break road trip in Tennessee by going 4-0 with a 15-2 win over Palmetto Ridge (Fla.) and 12-0 win over Campbell County (Tenn.) on Saturday at the Ripken Experience.
Against Palmetto Ridge, Bailee Thorn tied two school records with her fourth home run of the season and ninth career home run.
Jenna McClish added a home run. Elly Exline had three hits, while Taylor Thorpe homered and singled. Brooke Veglia had a two-run single. Madison Markovich and Hannah Kelm had two hits each. Hayden Carner tripled.
Against Campbell County, Exline homered and singled, while Veglia had two triples. Thorn doubled and singled. Carner doubled and Alyssa Bricker scored.
The team planned to go to downtown Gatlinburg on Saturday evening. A ham/turkey dinner was set for Sunday followed by a hike.
Salem is 9-4 and will visit Alliance on Tuesday.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Crestview’s softball team moved to 16-3 on the season by clubbing Black River Falls (Wis.) 4-0 on Saturday at the Ripken Experience.
Haley Eskra and Kaedyn Sutton had two hits each to pace the Rebels, while Sutton went the distance in the circle striking out seven.

Salem travels 650 miles to play Struthers
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Even though the school districts are separated by 23 miles, Salem and Struthers baseball teams went at it 650 miles away from home on Saturday afternoon at the Ripken Experience.
Eric Davis of Struthers struck out six in a complete-game effort as the Wildcats knocked off the Quakers 7-0.
Bryce Owen had three hits to lead the Quakers.
Billy Opritza had two hits and two RBIs for Struthers, 5-9.
Blaise Exline made his first career start for the Quakers striking out two in three scoreless innings of work. Ricky Enlow took the loss for Salem.
Salem (6-8) hosts Minerva on Tuesday.
