Branch wins a pair

BELOIT–The West Branch volleyball team opened the season with a pair of victories in a tri-match with Western Reserve and Ravenna Southeast Saturday.

The Warriors beat Southeast 25-20, 25-13.

Bailey Campbell finished with 11 points for West Branch, while Riley Tuel added eight kills, six points and three aces. Elise Wallace dished out 19 assists. Jessica Bock chipped in seven kills.

West Branch beat Western Reserve 25-15, 25-16 in the second match.

Sydney Mercer totaled seven points, six kills and two aces for the Warriors. Elise Wallace added 11 assists. Jessica Bock finished with five kills and two aces.

The West Branch jayvee team also won a pair of matches, beating Southeast 25-6, 25-13 and topping Western Reserve 25-19, 25-15. Ariah Hagan had 10 assists in the first match. Grace Silmon had four kills and five assists in the second match.

Heartland splits

CORTLAND — The Heartland Christian volleyball team opened its season with a split Saturday.

The Lions swept host Maplewood, 25-14, 25-20, in its first match.

Leaders for Heartland were Dara Arthurs with six kills, five points and two blocks; Emma Hall four kills, four points, two aces and seven digs; Lydia Wilson 14 assists, three kills, four points, three aces and 10 digs; and Makayla Osborn six points, three kills and three digs.

South Range topped Heartland, 25-23, 25-15, in the second match.

For the Lions, Arthurs had five kills, four points, two aces, two blocks and five digs; Osborn six kills, four points, three aces and seven digs; and Wilson 14 assists, six digs and two blocks.

South Range also defeated Maplewood, 25-15, 25-18.

Heartland will host Sebring Monday, while South Range entertains Youngstown Mooney Tuesday.
