Quakers shine at Early Bird

SALEM — Salem featured the top runners at the 17th annual Salem Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.

Salem senior Hunter Christopher won the boys race for the second time in three years, while Salem junior Carly Hall ran away with the girls race.

Hunter Christopher topped the 170-runner boys field, covering the 3.1-mile course at Waterworth Memorial Park in 16 minutes, 10.1 seconds. Twin Cameron Christopher wasn’t far behind in fourth place. Marlington sophomore Noah Graham was second and Louisville senior Miklos Hendricks fourth.

Louisville and Salem finished one-two in the boys team standings a second straight year. The Leopards had three of the top seven runners for 34 points. Salem was second with 82 points.

Hall won the 155-runner girls race in 19:26.7 to get her season off to a good start. Beaver Local senior Corin Turkovich was eighth.

Louisville repeated as the girls team champion with 68 points. Perry ws second with 86 points, Canton Central Catholic third with 112 and Salem fourth with 114.

The races totaled 325 high school finishers and 249 junior high school finishers.
