Clippers outlast Bulldogs

EAST PALESTINE — Columbiana’s boys soccer team is on a roll.

The Clippers captured their third straight victory by outlasting East Palestine 5-4 on Wednesday in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference encounter.

Columbiana is 5-1-1 and 3-1 in the league with its only loss coming to league-leading United.

Gabe Heinrich had four goals for the Clippers boosting his season total to 18. Ashton Kakavros added a goal, while Collin Schick had two assists. Drake Daughtery also had an assist.

Nate Burnell had six saves in goal for the Clippers.

East Palestine falls to 5-3-1 and 2-2 in the EOAC. The Bulldogs started the season with four straight wins but are 1-3-1 in their last five. East Palestine is at Lordstown today.

Josh Welch scored twice for the Bulldogs and added an assist.

Weston Jones tallied two goals, while Caden Rummel had an assist.

Matt Garcia had eight saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

Columbiana hosts Jackson-Milton today.

Salem 1, Minerva 1

MINERVA — Salem and Minerva scored in the first half and played to a 1-1 tie in girls soccer action Wednesday at Hines Stadium.

Abby Perry scored Salem’s goal off an assist from Mikaylynn Murphy. Sam Moore recorded six saves in goal.

The Quakers will host Mooney on Monday.

East Liverpool 3, Columbiana 2

EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool’s girls soccer team has broken out of its slump to start the season in a big way.

The Potters rallied from a one-goal deficit at half time to defeat Columbiana 3-2 on Wednesday at Patterson Field.

The Potters (2-5) captured their second straight victory coming on back-to-back night games.

Columbiana (1-6) led 2-1 at half on goals from Lily Marsco and Grace Hammond. Marsco also had an assist.

Kya Kavanaugh’s goal with 10 minutes to go put the Potters ahead for good. Kavanaugh also had another goal.

Selena Rogers chipped in with a goal of her own, while Allie Kidder had two assists. Natalie Parker had an assist as well.

Hayden Harrington had a strong game anchoring the Potter defense, while Alessandra Ferrazzano had 12 saves in goal.

East Liverpool hosts Weirton Madonna on Monday.

Autumn Chuey had 13 saves in goal for the Clippers.

Columbiana plays at United on Monday.

Crestview 6, Newton Falls 0

COLUMBIANA — Crestview’s girls soccer team stopped Newton Falls 6-0 on Wednesday.

Maci Shaffer had four goals and an assist. Enna Horne added a goal and two assists. Chloe Downey bagged a goal. Kamden Miller had two assists and Kayla Best had one assist. Crestview is 3-4 and host Brookfield on Monday.

Taylor Mellington had seven saves in goal.

South Range 5, Struthers 0

GREENFORD — South Range’s girls soccer team blanked Struthers 5-0 on Wednesday in a game shortened by stormy weather.

Gabby Lamparty had two goals and two assists for the Raiders. Bree Kohler had two goals, while Hannah Ritchie had a single goal. Harley Novak had an assist.

South Range hosts Jefferson Area on Monday.

Wellsville 2, Leetonia 2

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville and Leetonia soccer teams played to a 2-2 draw Wednesday.

Wellsville goals were scored by by Jonathan Walker and Casey Lemasters. Ashley Heffner had an assist. Levi Boley made seven saves for Wellsville.

The Tigers will host Jackson-Milton at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Crestview 7, Newton Falls 0

COLUMBIANA — Ryan Emch scored three goals and Dale McGoogan had two goals in leading Crestview past Newton Falls, 7-0, in boys soccer action Wednesday.

The Rebles improve to 6-1 overall and 6-0 in the AAC Blue Tier.

Nick Novak added one goal and two assists and Mitch Auer also scored a goal.

Cory Dewell, Tanner Daub, Justin Steiskal, Colt Crane also had assists.

Goalie Carter Blakeman made five saves to preserve the Rebels’ sixth shutout of the season.

Newton Falls’ Ethan Wolford made nine saves.

Crestview will host Brookfield at 5:30 p.m. today.
