Salem at East Liverpool

7:30 p.m., Friday

Salem’s football team is riding an 11-game out-of-conference winning streak dating back to 2016. The Quakers (2-0) have also won five straight against the Potters. East Liverpool (1-1) dropped a key Buckeye 8 game against Indian Creek last week.

Brookfield at United

7 p.m., Friday

Brookfield (1-1) was favored to be the front-runner in the All-American Conference but suffered a 49-28 to surging Springfield Local last week. United (1-1) is out of its two-week swing of Eastern Buckeye Conference opponents. A three-week road trek awaits the Eagles after this game.

East Palestine at Campbell

7 p.m., Friday

East Palestine (0-2) has been outscored 111-0 so far this season, but Campbell (1-1) has once in its last 12. The Bulldogs bested the Red Devils in a shootout 48-37 last season. The will be the third straight game on turf for the Bulldogs this season.

Leetonia at Southington

7 p.m., Friday

Leetonia (2-0) has got its footing after comfortable wins against Div. VII Sebring and Mathews to open the season. Southington (0-2) has given up 70 points total in two competitive losses.

Columbiana at Springfield

7 p.m., Friday

A lot of computer points are riding on this key Region 21, Div. VI matchup between the 2-0 Tigers and 1-1 Clippers. Springfield, the clear favorite in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference, missed the playoffs after going 9-1 a season ago. Columbiana has not beat Springfield since 2015 and will have to be wary of looking ahead to next week’s EOAC battle with Southern.

South Range at Canton Central Catholic

7 p.m., Friday

There will be a lot of points on the line in Div. V, Region 17. The region already has 10 2-0 teams and the Raiders (1-1) can’t afford to fall farther behind with a much tougher Northeast 8 conference schedule ahead. The Crusaders (1-1) lost to a powerhouse Perry team in the opener, but bounced back to beat Norwayne last week.

Beaver Local at Minerva

7 p.m., Friday

Could this be it? By virtue of Buckeye Local snapping its 43-game losing streak last Friday, Minerva now owns Ohio’s longest current losing streak at 42 games. The Lions (0-2) are close though after losing the first two games by a combined 16 points. Beaver (1-1) will have to be careful after unexpectedly losing to Akron Kenmore-Garfield last week.

Struthers at West Branch

7 p.m., Friday

Struthers (1-1) and West Branch (0-2) were briefly in a conference together as members of the defunct Mahoning Valley Conference from 1979-81. There’s no conference glory on the line here, but this will be an important game as both teams look to break free of disappointing starts.

Mathews at Sebring

7 p.m. Friday

Mathews (1-1) bailed on Leetonia in the third quarter last week due to mounting injuries, so could this mean the Trojans (1-1) have a shot at their first winning streak since 2016?

Western Reserve at Norwayne

7 p.m., Friday

The Blue Devils (1-1) had no trouble with East Palestine last week, but it’s hard to predict what awaits them in Wayne County. Norwayne (0-2) took Mogadore to the wire in the first week and was blown out by Canton Central last week.

Crestview at McDonald

7 p.m., Friday

Before the season, one would think this would be a possible matchup of two traditional powerhouses, but that’s not the case this time. Both teams were humbled last week and at 0-2 are both trying to get back on track.

Lisbon vs. Valley Christian at Poland

7 p.m., Saturday

Lisbon (0-2) has lost six straight and has been shutout four times in those losses including a 33-0 defeat vs. Mineral Ridge last week. Valley Christian (0-2) has scored six points in each of its defeats and is riding a seven-game losing streak. And oh yeah, the Eagles were a playoff team last season.
