Eagles fly into district semifinals

HANOVERTON — Jaret Hahn collected two goals and two assists and Zach Jewell one goal and two assists as second-seeded United blanked seventh-seeded Est Palestine, 7-0, in a Division III sectional final Saturday.

Rounding out the attack were Kade Blake, Ethan Stout and Luke Medure with goals. Tyler Blake and Keaton Widlicka added assists.

Ethan McDevitt recorded five saves in goal and for his 11th shutout of the season.

Matt Garcia had eight saves for the Bulldogs (9-6-3).

United (16-1) will host third-seeded Crestview in a district semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Crestview 5,

Heartland 1

COLUMBIANA — Five players scored goals in leading third-seeded Crestview past sixth-seeded Heartland Christian, 5-1, in a Division III sectional finals Saturday at Zach Garwood Soccer Complex.

Dakota Shaffer, Ryan Emch, Mitchell Auer, Colt Crane, and Nick Novak all scored goals for the Rebels. Tanner Daub, Dale McGoogan, Shaffer, Emch and Auer had assists. Carter Blakeman made six saves in goal.

Matthew DeNiro scored Heartland’s goal. Zach Labon made 10 saves.

Crestview will play at United in a district semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

South Range 9,

St. Thomas 2

GREENFORD — Canaan Johnson had two goals and five assists in a record-setting effort in top-seeded South Range’s 9-2 win over eighth-seeded Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas in a Division III sectional final Saturday.

Johnson set a single-season school record with 22 assists this year.

Quinn Peierson scored three goals and Brandon Smith two in the winning effort. Logan Weaver had one goal and one assist. Camden Thomas rounded out the scoring.

Luke McConnell and Jackson Yeagley collected assists. Braden Johnson made five saves and Matt Lucas two.

State-ranked South Range (15-2) will host fourth-seeded Mooney at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Howland 9, West Branch 1

HOWLAND — Top-seeded Howland bowled over eighth-seeded West Branch 9-1 in a Division II sectional final Saturday.

The Warriors end their season at 8-9-1 overall. Cohen Lamp scored the lone West Branch goal with 24:25 remaining. Howland took command with six first half goals.

Howland (16-0-1) will host fourth-seeded Youngstown Ursuline at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Mooney 13, Columbiana 2

YOUNGSTOWN — Fourth-seeded Youngstown Mooney rolled to a 13-2 victory over fifth-seeded Columbiana in a Division III sectional final Saturday.

Mooney will play at top-seeded South Range in a district semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
