Northwest puts an end to West Branch’s season

BELOIT–The season came to an end for the West Branch volleyball team Thursday with a 25-15, 25-23, 25-27, 25-21 loss to Canal Fulton Northwest in a Div. II sectional final at West Branch High School.

The fourth-seeded Warriors finish the season 17-7. Fifth-seeded Northwest advances to take on top-seeded Marlington in a district semifinal at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

For the Warriors, Riley Tuel had 12 points, while Elise Wallace had 28 assists. Sydney Mercer and Sammie Tuel added 10 and nine kills respectively.

Indian Valley 3, Beaver 2

CALCUTTA — Third-seeded Beaver Local bowed out of the Div. II sectional tournament with a 25-12, 25-23, 25-23 loss to eighth-seeded Indian Valley on Thursday.

For the Beavers, Bailey Bowersock had two kills and nine digs. Karlee Furman had 18 assists, two kills, four digs and six points. Grace Hill had 11 kills and four blocks. Kodi Kinsey had eight points and five digs. Eli Kolkowski had five kills and four blocks. Leah Riccardo had four digs. Brooke Talbot had 11 kills, 12 assists and eight digs. Cierrah Thurik had 13 digs. Corin Turkovich had 10 digs and Briar Wolski had three digs and five points.

Indian Valley, the defending Div. II district champion, will meet Maysville on Tuesday in the district semifinal at a site to be determined.

Mineral Ridge 3,

Southern 0

COLUMBIANA — Top-seeded Mineral Ridge defeated eighth-seeded Southern 26-24, 25-14, 25-21 in a Div. II sectional final Thursday at Columbiana High School.

The Rams (22-1) advance to take on fourth-seeded Springfield in a district semifinal at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

For the Indians, Delainey Mellott had 11 points, two aces and five digs, while Erin Boyle had seven kills and 10 digs.

Maddie Paxson added nine kills and five points. Kyleigh Ketchum dished out 10 assists. Cheyenne Utt had six points and three kills.

The leaders for the Rams were Danielle Aulet with 35 assists, Katelyn Lesko with 17 kills and 22 digs and Maddie Carl with 11 digs.

Springfield 3,

Western Reserve 1

COLUMBIANA–Fourth-seeded Springfield defeated fifth-seeded Western Reserve 25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 25-11 in a Div. IV sectional final Thursday at Columbiana High School.

The Tigers advance to take on top-seeded Mineral Ridge in a district semifinal at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

For the Tigers, Lyndsey Smith had 12 kills and six blocks, while Lauren Ranelli had 33 assists, five aces, 11 digs and 14 points.

Dani Vuletich had 16 kills and four digs for the Blue Devils. Kennedy Miller added 11 assists, 12 digs and 10 points. Kayla Owen had 10 kills, 11 digs and five points.
