Warriors claim title
BELOIT–The West Branch girls soccer team celebrated their sixth consecutive league title by clobbering Salem, 7-0, Wednesday.
The Warriors went 6-0-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference for another championship.
Lexi Biery had three goals and one assist and Emma Egli added two goals. Jillian Pidgeon and Haley Jones each had one goal.
Makenna Lins had two assists and Pidgeon one. Taylor Slagle and Kamryn Briceland combined for the shutout in goal.
Sam Moore had eight saves in goal for the Quakers.
West Branch also won the JV match 2-0.
West Branch closes out the regular season by hosting Beaver Local at 3 p.m. Saturday. Salem opens Division II sectional play at home Monday against Girard.
South Range 10, Jefferson 0
JEFFERSON–South Range senior captain Canaan Johnson set a school career assists record as the Raiders smashed Jefferson 10-0 in Northeast 8 Athletic League action Wednesday.
Johnson notched three assists Wednesday, giving him a career total of 50.
Leading the scoring for the fourth-ranked Raiders was Logan Weaver with three goals and Luke McConnell and Quinn Pierson with two each.
Camden Thomas, Tom Landry and Johnson each had one goal.
Thomas had three assists, while Weaver and Landry each had one.
The Raiders close the regular season at 14-2 and will await either St. Thomas Aquinas or Campbell in a sectional final next Saturday.
United 11, Warren JFK 0
HANOVERTON–The United boys soccer team closed the regular season by crushing Warren JFK 11-0 on Wednesday.
Zach Jewell and Luke Medure led the way with three goals apiece as the Eagles improve to 15-1.
Kade Blake added a goal and an assist, while Dylan Thompson and Kaleb Shinn each had one goal.
Keaton Widlicka added two assists. Dominic DiGiacomo, Dante Rapp and Sean McKarns each had one assist.
Ethan McDevitt and Dylan Thompson combined for the Eagles’ 10th shutout.
Second-seeded United will host either East Palestine or Waterloo in a Div. III sectional final next Saturday.
Columbiana 6, Heartland
COLUMBIANA–The Columbiana boys soccer team defeated Heartland Christian 6-2 on Wednesday.
Gabe Heinrich and Ashton Kakavros each landed three goals for the Clippers. Collin Schick dished out a pair of assists, while Drake Daugherty had one assist.
Nate Burnell had six saves in goal.
Springfield 5, Crestview 0
NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Springfield girls soccer team booted Crestview, 5-0, Wednesday to finish the regular season with a 15-1 record, the best in the program’s history.
Crestview’s Taylor Mellington had seven saves.
Beaver 1, Oak Glen 1
CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s Austin McCoy and Oak Glen’s Andrew Giambroni scored goals as the teams played to a 1-1 tie Wednesday.
Assists went to Beaver Local’s Logan Winland and Oak Glen’s Lucas Harris. Beaver Local’s Ashton Bowser had five saves and Oak Glen’s Jacob Clark had 26 saves.
Oak Glen (7-6-4) will play at East Liverpool at 6 p.m. today.
