Clippers race past Blue Devils

LISBON–The Columbiana girls basketball team used a big third quarter to defeat Lisbon 58-47 in a key Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opener Monday.

The Clippers are now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the EOAC. Lisbon is now 1-4, 0-1.

The Blue Devils hung tough in the first half and only trailed 25-21 at halftime. The Clippers, however, outscored Lisbon 22-8 in the third quarter to build an 18-point lead.

Kayla Muslovski paced Columbiana with 21 points, while Grace Hammond had 12 points and Karissa Tringhese had 10 points.

Lisbon got a pair of big games from its one-two punch of point guard Izzy Perez and forward Maddie Liberati. Perez tallied 16 points, eight points, seven assists and three steals. Liberati totaled 17 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks.

Columbiana hosts Wellsville Thursday. Lisbon hosts Leetonia Monday.

HANOVERTON — United opened the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference portion of the season with a 36-27 win over Leetonia on Monday.

Celeste Hofmeister powered the Eagles (3-2, 1-0) with 10 points and four rebounds. The rest of the Eagle scoring was spread out.

Anna Buffone had six points for the Bears.

United won the jayvee game,38-17. Michaela Shasteen had eight points for the winners, while Colby Burton had seven points.

United is at Southern on Thursday.

Poland 37, South Range 29

POLAND — Poland knocked off South Range 37-29 on Monday in a key Northeast 8 girls basketball contest.

South Range (2-2) hosts Hubbard on Thursday.

Poland (3-0) was led by Jackie Grisdale’s 18 points.

Western Reserve 96, Sebring 23

BERLIN CENTER–The Western Reserve girls basketball team rolled over Sebring 96-23 in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference action Monday.

The Blue Devils are now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the MVAC.

Dani Vuletich had 23 points and 11 rebounds. Olivia Pater added 16 points, 10 steals and four assists. Also for the Blue Devils, Alyssa Serensky had 15 points, four assists and four steals. Brooke Schantz had 14 points and four steals. Hannah Cross had 10 points for Sebring.

The Western Reserve jv team beat the Canfield freshmen 41-19. Jenna Heater had 11 points for the Blue Devils.

Western Reserve hosts Mineral Ridge Thursday.
