Warriors stay perfect

BELOIT–Reese Leone poured in 28 points as the West Branch boys basketball team remained unbeaten with a 53-50 win over Canfield Friday.

The Warriors are now 5-0 overall. Canfield drops to 3-2.

Cohen Lamp added eight points for the Warriors.

West Branch won the jv game 49-38.

GREENFORD — Lakeview’s Brendon Kilpatrick had 19 points as the Bulldogs knocked off South Range 55-44 on Friday.

Chris Brooks led the Raiders (2-1) with 24 points.

South Range won the jayvee portion 43-21 with Mike Perry scoring six points.

South Range will be at Poland on Tuesday.

MINERAL RIDGE — Sebring improved to 5-0 with a 58-56 win over Mineral Ridge on Friday in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference action.

Carson Rouse had 16 points with 12 rebounds and Jake Hunter added 15 points and 10 assists.

Sebring overcame 25 turnovers to win.

Mineral Ridge fell to 2-1.

Sebring is at Western Reserve on Tuesday.

Mineral Ridge won the jayvee portion, 64-27.

SALINEVILLE–The Southern boys basketball team opened its Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference schedule by pounding United 71-30 on Friday.

The Indians are now 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the EOAC.

Brock Smalley led all scorers with 19 points, while Cam Grodhaus logged 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Bradly Sloan added 12 points, seven rebounds, five steals and five assists. Jayce Sloan had a team-high 10 rebounds to go with four steals. The Indians led 28-2 after the first quarter.

Ward Kiko and Keaton Baker each had eight points for the Eagles.

Southern won the jv game 60-37. Michai Mason led the Indians with 15 points. Brady Ketchum had 14 points.

NORTH JACKSON–The Western Reserve boys basketball team emerged with a 46-45 victory over Jackson-Milton in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference opener Friday.

Western Reserve is now 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the MVAC. Jackson-Milton is 3-2, 0-1.

Noah Klasic led the Blue Devils with 17 points. Preston Reed had 10 points and five rebounds.

Western Reserve won the jv game 49-40. Joey Serensky had 14 points for the Blue Devils.

COLUMBIANA–The Columbiana boys basketball team toppled Wellsville 67-43 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference action Friday.

Matthew Mazei had a big game for the Clippers with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Dalton Whitehair led all scorers with 18 points. Hunter Zentner grabbed 12 rebounds.

For Wellsville, Luke Green led the way with 16 points. Justin Wright added 13 points.

Columbiana won the two-quarter jv game 35-18. Nick Million had 16 points for the Clippers.

LEETONIA — Jonathan Bertovich tallied 19 points as East Palestine earned its first win of the season 53-52 over Leetonia on Friday.

East Palestine is 1-3, while Leetonia fell to 0-4.

Ian Davis had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Bears.

East Palestine won the jayvee game, 37-31.

East Palestine hosts Southern on Tuesday, while Leetonia is at Lisbon on Tuesday.

YOUNGSTOWN — Crestview got on the board with its first win of the season by downing Liberty 68-60 on Friday in All-American Conference play.

Drake golden had 24 points and eight rebounds for the Rebels, 1-3, 1-0. Kirkland Miller added 11 points and five rebounds. Brandon Yanssens had six assists and three steals.

Liberty won the jayvee game, 66-17.

Crestview is at Lisbon today.
