Branch holds EBC lead

BELOIT — West Branch remained in first place in the Eastern Buckeye Conference by downing Alliance 58-45 on Friday.

Jaxon Henderschott led the Warriors with 14 points. West Branch is 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the league. Alliance fell to 8-5 and 4-3 in the league.

Reese Leone added 10 points for the winners. Nick Everett had 11 piints and 10 rebounds.

West Branch hosts Hubbard on Jan. 25.

BERLIN CENTER –Jackson-Milton dumped Western Reserve 37-32 on Friday in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play.

Western Reserve is 5-9 and 2-6 in the MVAC, while Jackson-Milton is 5-10 and 2-6.

Noah Klasic had 10 points for the Devils.

Western Reserve won the jayvee game, 43-41. Austin Nabb had 14 points for Reserve.

EAST PALESTINE — Jonathan Bertovich had 32 points as East Palestine snatched a 59-57 victory over Leetonia on Friday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.

East Palestine is 3-8.

Leetonia got 16 points each from Jordan Baker and Ian Davis.

Leetonia won the jayvee game, 44-33.

HANOVERTON — Southern Local is back in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference lead.

The Indians got 30 points from Cam Grodhaus and 20 from Brock Smalley to double up United, 88-44, Friday night.

Southern is 11-1 overall and 6-1 in the EOAC, tied with Columbiana after the Clippers lost at Wellsville on Friday. United is 0-11 and 0-6 EOAC.

The Indians jumped out to a 23-6 lead in the first quarter as Grodhaus and Smalley each scored eight points.

Bradly Sloan had six of his 15 points in the first quarter to go along with seven steals, five rebounds and four assists. Tanner Patterson added nine rebounds and two blocks, Jayce Sloan seven rebounds, seven assists, four steals, Grodhaus four assists and three steals, Smalley three steals and Sam May had two steals.

Keaton Baker topped the Eagles with 13 points. Nate Miller collected nine points and seven rebounds.

Southern also won the junior varsity game, 48-40. Brady Ketchum scored 14 points and Jason Riggs had 13 to guide Southern. Grant Knight led United with eight points.

Both teams play Tuesday as Southern hosts East Palestine and United travels to Wellsville.

JEFFERSON — A 15-2 third-quarter run pushed South Range over Jefferson Area, 52-49, in Northeast 8 action Friday night.

The Raiders trailed 34-22 at halftime before taking a 37-36 lead heading into the final period.

South Range improves to 8-4.

Chris Brooks led the Raiders with a game-high 21 points, including five in the pivotal third quarter.

South Range will host Mahoning Valley Conference power Waterloo on Tuesday.

SEBRING — The Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference hasn’t been kind to Sebring since the Trojans received a second-place state ranking.

The Trojans — ranked 11th in Division IV for the moment — dropped their fourth straight, 58-57, to Mineral Ridge on Friday.

Mineral Ridge improves to 7-5 overall and 5-4 in the MVAC. Sebring drops to 9-4 and 4-4 MVAC.

Austin Governor scored a game-high 17 points for the Rams. Miles Culp added 14 points and Maurice Clark 10.

The Trojans were led by Gabe Lanzer with 16 points and Jake Hunter with 15.

Sebring will host Leetonia on Tuesday.

LEAVITTSBURG — Tre’von Drake scored a game-high 19 points in leading LaBreae past Crestview, 56-33, Friday night.

LaBrae improves to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in the All-American Conference. Crestview moves to 4-9 and 2-4 AAC.

The Vikings led 20-15 at halftime and outscored the Rebels 36-18 in the second half.

Jack Yerkey paced the Rebels with 10 points. Drake Golden had seven points and nine rebounds and Kirkland Miller added six rebounds.

LaBrae also won the junior varsity game, 36-22. Cade Hancox and Nick Novak six points.

Crestview will play at Liberty on Tuesday.
