West Branch holds share of EBC lead

BELOIT — West Branch climbed into a share of the Eastern Buckeye Conference lead by handing Carrollton its first league loss, 41-35, Friday.

Both teams are 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the EBC.

Nick Everett and Reese Leone both scored 11 points for West Branch. Justin Goode added nine points.

West Branch opened up a 25-13 lead at halftime and never looked back.

Adam Chaney topped Carrollton with 16 points, followed by Jimmy Birong with nine.

West Branch also won the junior varsity game, 42-25.

West Branch will play at Salem on Tuesday.

WELLSVILLE — Luke Green scored 28 points and Justin Wright 23 in leading Wellsville past Leetonia, 74-48, Friday.

The Tigers improve to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Green turned in one of best all-around games, collecting 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals to along with his 28 points.

Jaxon Brewer added eight points and Wright grabbed six rebounds.

The Tigers outscored the Bears 21-9 in the second quarter and 22-6 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the victory.

Dylan Lennon paced the Bears with 10 points.

Wellsville also won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 24-14.

The Tigers will host Toronto at 6 p.m. today, while the Bears entertain United on Tuesday.

NILES — Chris Brooks scored 27 points to power South Range to a 46-38 win over Niles in Northeast 8 action Friday.

The Raiders improve to 6-3 on the season.

Four Raiders scored in a 13-2 second quarter that gave them control. South Range led 37-21 after three quarters.

The Raiders will host Salem tonight.

COLUMBIANA –Beckett Richards had 14 points as Heartland downed United 53-37 on Friday.

Nate Miller had nine points and 13 rebounds for United.

Cade Roth added 10 points for the Lions.

Heartland won the jayvee game, 48-37. Kaleb Nastari had 10 points.

United is at Leetonia on Tuesday.

EAST PALESTINE — Lisbon’s Blayne Brownfield had the hot hand with 25 points and 12 rebounds as the Blue Devils dumped East Palestine 67-42 on Friday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Ryan McCullough had 15 points and seven assists for the Devils, 5-7, 4-2.

Jonathan Bertovich had 22 points for the Bulldogs, 2-6.

East Palestine hosts Heartland on Tuesday. Lisbon is at league-leading Columbiana on Tuesday.

East Palestine won the jayvee game, 37-26. Payton Elliott scored 16 for the winners. Hunter Sturgeon had seven points for Lisbon.

ATWATER — Waterloo got 20 points from Vaughn Dorsey as the Vikings beat Western Reserve 58-39 on Friday in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play.

Waterloo is 10-1, 5-1. Western Reserve is 5-7, 2-4.

The Blue Devils were led by Ryan Gordon’s 15 points.

Western Reserve won the jayvee game, 59-48. Austin Nabb had 13 for the winners.

Western Reserve hosts McDonald on Tuesday.

Crestview is 4-8 and 2-3 in the All-American Conference.

Campbell is 3-8.

Campbell won the jayvee game, 49-41. Crestview was led by Nick Novak’s 14 points.
