Rebels can’t prevent Viking raid

COLUMBIANA — A 27-11 second-quarter run lifted LaBrae to a 64-47 win over Crestview in All-American Conference Blue Tier action Tuesday.

LaBrae improves to 18-3, while Crestview drops to 6-14 overall and 3-8 in league play.

The Vikings featured a balanced attack led by Connor Meyer with 24 points, 10 coming in the second quarter.

Aidan Stephens added 11 points, Landon Kiser 10, Tre’Von Drake nine and Justin Rutherford eight.

After a Jack Yerkey layup pulled Crestview with 17-11 with five minutes left in the second quarter, LaBrae closed out the first half on a 20-6 run for a 20-point lead.

Yerkey topped the Rebels with 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Brandon Yanssens had 10 points and six assists and Drake Golden 10 points and three steals. Kirkland Miller also had eight points and three steals.

LaBrae also won the junior varsity game, 50-29. Jacob McCarntey scored 12 points for the Vikings. Nick Novak had 10 points for the Rebels.

Both teams play next Tuesday as Crestview visits Leetonia and LaBrae travels to Lakeview.

Heartland 44

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana scored at least 20 points in each of the last three quarters to pull away to a 74-44 win at Heartland Christian on Tuesday.

The Clippers, who shot 51 percent from the field, up their mark to 18-3 on the season.

Matthew Mazei totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Fahs scored 12 points for the Clippers. Carter Pasco added 10 points and Hunter Zentner collected nine rebounds and six assists.

After leading 12-11 in the first quarter, Columbiana opened up a 33-23 halftime lead and a 53-30 advantage after three quarters.

Cade Roth, Joey Donofrio and Ronnie Matthews all had 10 points for Heartland.

Columbiana also won the junior varsity game, 47-33. Nick Million scored 11 points and Tyler Andersen 10 points for the Clippers. Luke Reynolds had 10 points for the Lions.

Heartland will play at Leetonia on Friday, while Columbiana hosts West Branch next Tuesday.

HANOVERTON –Lordstown carded a 54-48 win over United on Tuesday in boys basketball action.

Nate Miller and Steffen Jarrett led the Eagles with 13 points each. Jarrett added nine rebounds.

United hosts Lisbon on Friday.
