Brooks named third-team All-Ohio
COLUMBUS — Senior Chris Brooks could do it all for South Range.
Brooks was named to the 2019-20 Division III All-Ohio high school boys basketball team released Monday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
A third-team All-Ohio selection, Brooks guided the Raiders to a 16-9 record against a tough schedule that included 19 games against Division II teams.
He led the team in scoring (19.4), rebounding (11.4), field goal percentage (56.3%), blocked shots, double doubles (15) and Raiders (recovered turnovers without the other team scoring).
Brooks is second in school history with 1,046 points and 620 rebounds.
Also in Division III, Springfield senior Drew Clark received first-team honors and senior teammate Evan Ohlin gained honorable mention after the Tigers went 18-8 on the season.
Clark averaged a team-high 19.4 points and 10.8 rebounds a game, while Ohlin added 14.0 points a game.
East Palestine sophomore Jonathan Bertovich averaged 26.3 points a game as he scored a school-record 604 points this season.
McDonald senior Zach Rasile is the Ohio Division IV player of the year.
Rasile finished as the second on Ohio’s all-time scoring list with 3,010 career points.
The Blue Devils finished 22-4 this season and averaged 76 points a game.
Rasile accounted for half of the points, averaging 38.0 points a game as he totaled 987 this season with 127 three-pointers. He also averaged 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.7 steals, while shooting 43.6 percent from three-point range and 84.6 percent from the foul line.
Southern Local senior Cam Grodhaus and Sebring senior Gabe Lanzer received special mention, while Wellsville senior Darien Suggs and Sebring senior Jake Hunter got honorable mention.
Grodhaus sparked the Indians to a school-best 18-7 record and the fourth district final appearance in school history.
He averaged a team-high 20.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.8 steals a game.
Suggs returned to lineup after missing the first part of the season due to injury and led the Tigers to a 12-win season. He averaged 18.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists.
Lanzer and Hunter sparked the Trojans to a 15-9 season.
Lanzer averaged a team-high 16.2 points a game and is the Trojans’ third all-time leading scorer with 1,249 points, while Hunter contributed 14.5 points a game.
