Laut receives academic honor

ALLIANCE — Mount Union junior point guard Daniel Laut is one of 20 Purple Raiders recognized as Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference during the winter sports season.

Laut, a 2016 graduate of Salem High School, is majoring in sports business.

To be Academic All-OAC, a student athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average and maintain varsity status.

Laut was a member of the Mount Union men’s basketball game that was ranked No. 5 in the nation, captured OAC regular season and tournament titles, finished with a school-best 27-3 record and had a school-record 19-game winning streak. The Purple Raiders reached the NCAA Division III tournament Sweet 16 for the third time in school history before the season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Laut played four minutes in two games, one being a 107-76 win over Cairn (Pa.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Alliance on March 6.
