Tournament play resumes

Competition golf returned to the county on Saturday as golfers teamed up for the annual Leetonia Ruritan Golf Scramble at the Valley Golf Club.

All proceeds from the four-person, 9-hole scramble go to the Ruritans’ scholarship fund.

The team of Jarrod T. Kane, Joe Rettig, Christopher Bouchillon and Richard Hendricks tamed the Valley course (they didn’t need to tame Bunker, the course dog, who is really quite pleasant) with a 7-under 28 to win the tournament.

No one aced the fourth hole to win the $5,000 cash prize sponsored by Dennis J. and Sean Holloway of the Holloway Insurance Co.

Hole prize winners were: Teresa Furniss, closest to the pin on No. 2; Ed Alesi, closest to pin on No. 4; Jarrod Kane, long drive on No. 5; Nick Yarosz, closest to directional flag on No. 6; Chris Bouchillon, long putt on No 7; and Doug Berdine, long putt on No. 9.

Next up on Valley’s schedule is the annual Valley Spring Scramble, set this Saturday. Spots are still available for the 18-hole, four-person event. Golfers interested in playing can call the Valley pro shop, 330/482-9464.
