Local golfer makes cut at tournament

MEDINA- Jared Wilson of Columbiana has made the cut at the 99th Ohio Open.

Wilson, a two-time Division III state champion who is now on the Kent State golf team, shot an even 69 at Weymouth Club in the second round. He is tied at 24th at 1-under in the 237-golfer field.

Two other local golfers missed the cut.

Paul Wackerly finished one shot off the 2-over cut after shooting a 6-over at Weymouth. He entered the day tied for 10th after shooting 3-under at the Fox Meadow Country Club , but had six bogies on the day.

Alex Tambellini of East Liverpool finished the tournament tied for 182 at 17-over. He shot 10-over on Tuesday.

The leader is Bob Sowards of Dublin who fired a 7-under Tuesday and sits at 11-under total, one shot ahead of Ryan Yip of Kent and Alex Weiss of Pickerington.
