Salem sweeps United

SALEM — Salem’s boys soccer team started off the season on the right foot with a 2-1 win over United on Friday at Sebo Stadium.

Quaker goals came from Max Kemats and Hunter Griffith. Alex Croxall and Jacob McLachlin added assists. Caiden Hart chipped in with eight saves including one on a penalty kick.

Kade Blake scored on an assist by Luke Medure for United. Dylan Thompson had four saves.

Salem will be at Niles on Tuesday.

United hosts Heartland at 8 p.m. on Monday in a special Senior Night game.

Salem 3, United 0

SALEM — Mikaylynn Murrary found the net twice as Salem’s girls soccer team blanked United 3-0 on Friday at Sebo Stadium.

Rylee Hutton scored the opening goal. Assists came from Abby Perry, Zoe DeLand and Clara Double.

Sam Moore had three saves for the Quakers.

Salem hosts Niles on Monday.

West Branch 7,

Niles 3

NILES — Emma Egli, Jillian Pidgeon and Daphne Snyder each had two goals as West Branch downed Niles 7-3 on Friday in girls soccer action.

Bri Thomas also had a goal.

Sophia Gregory had two assists. Amanda Davidson had three saves in goal.

West Branch won the jayvee portion 1-0.

VOLLEYBALL

Columbiana 3,

McDonald 0

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana’s volleyball team was a 25-16, 25-23, 25-18 winner over McDonald on Friday.

Grace Witmer had seven kills and 15 assists for the Clippers. Tori Long added nine kills and nine points, while Maci Linhart had 13 digs.

Columbiana won the jayvee portion, 25-11, 26-24. Ryleigh Zohnd had four kills.

Columbiana hosts Leetonia on Tuesday.

Leetonia 219

COLUMBIANA – Tyler Andersen carded a 30 to distance the field on Friday as Columbiana topped Leetonia 158-219 on Thursday at Valley.

Columbiana is 7-1.

For the Clippers, Bayden Pipoly had a 40 while Beau Velsquez and Ian Less had 44s.

For Leetonia, Ben Shasteen had a 53, Gavin Rambo 53, Grant Mertzweller 56 and Tucker Stark 57.

Columbiana 162, Wellsville 216

EAST LIVERPOOL — Tyler Andersen had a 35 to lead Columbiana to a 162-216 win over Wellsville on Thursday at Cedar Hills.

For the Clippers, Beau Velasquez had a 41, Anthony Hall 43 and Ian Less 43.

For the Tigers, Luke Green had a 40, Casey Lemasters 58, Rocco Desarro 59 and Markco Desarro 59.
