United, South Range in finals

The United and South Range girls soccer teams will be playing in Division III district championship matches tonight.

Third-seeded Burton Berkshire will entertain sixth-seeded United (15-3) at Chardon Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin High School at 6 p.m. today. The game was moved from Berkshire due to field conditions and the weather forecast.

Second-seeded South Range (13-4-1) will host fifth-seeded Champion at 6 p.m. today.

Cross country regionals set

Seven area teams plus five individuals will be competing in the regional cross country meets at Boardman High School and Pickerington North High School on Saturday.

The Division III boys and girls will be at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively, while the Division II boys and girls races will follow at noon and 1 p.m.

There are changes this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Boardman has been approved for 600 spectators per race.

At Boardman, South Range’s boys and girls, United’s boys and East Palestine’s girls teams will compete in Division III along with Southern Local’s Marcus Reed and Heartland Christian’s Giovanni Citriglia and Stephanie Johnson.

The Salem boys and girls and West Branch boys qualified for the Boardman Division II race.

The top four teams and 16 individuals in Division III advance to state along with the top six teams and 24 individuals in Division II.

East Liverpool’s Brannan Smith and Abbey DeLong have qualified for the Pickerington North regional. The top 28 individuals in the Division II boys and girls races will advance to state.
