Heartland junior high shines

Heartland Christian’s junior high volleyball teams had a strong showing at a season-ending tournament on Oct. 15 in Lordstown. The 8th grade team won the title with sweeps of Warren JFK, Southington and Badger. Individual highlights included Lauren Miasek with 11 kills in each of the preliminary match-ups and 12 in the the finale versus Badger. Sophia Stewart had 17, 14 and 18 assists over the course of the tourney. Mary Baker had a solid day from the service line with six, four and four aces respectively and 14 digs in the decisive match as Jayden Scheller recorded multiple kills in each of the three matches. Dena Arthurs and Rachel Reynolds also chipped in all around solid performance to help the team. The Heartland 7th grade team took the runner-up trophy in the same tournament falling to Badger 25-23, 17-25, 30-28 in the final. The Lions beat Southington and Lordstown in the other matches. Single-match highlights included Adeline Barrett with 10 assists, three kills and three aces versus Lordstown; Aubry Morgan with five kills, two aces and eight digs against Badger; and Sophia Stewart hammering 25 of her 52 aces for tournament in the finale versus Badger.

West Branch def. Carrollton 25-13, 24-26, 25-16 on Wednesday.
