Quakers rally past state-ranked Marlington

SALEM — The Salem girls were raring to go after a two-week quarantine.

The Quakers rallied past state-ranked Marlington, 45-37, Saturday to take sole possession of the Eastern Buckeye Conference lead.

Salem improves to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the EBC. Marlington, ranked third in the Division II state poll, is 12-2 and 6-1 in the EBC.

The Quakers went on a 17-4 run in the third quarter to overcome an early 16-5 deficit. Salem led 37-30 after three quarters and Marlington closed within 37-32 with four minutes remaining.

Kyla Jamison topped the balanced Quakers with 11 points. Abbie Davidson added seve points, Casey Johnson and Annie Davidson each had six points, and Abby Perry, Jenna McClish, and Alivia Davidson had five apiece.

Marlington freshman Chelsea Evanchich led the Dukes with 13 points, 11 coming in the first half before running into foul trouble and fouling out.

Salem also won the junior varsity game, 55-6, as Abby Perry scored 12 points.

The Quakers will play at Alliance on Wednesday.

West Branch 58, Minerva 36

BELOIT — West Branch moved to 13-4 on the season after defeating Minerva 58-36 on Saturday.

For the Warriors, Jillian Pidgeon had a game-high 21 points and Sydney Mercer added seven points. Sophie Gregory had six points and 10 rebounds.

For Minerva (5-8), Jenna Cassidy and Coletta Miller had 16 and 14 points, respectively.

In jayvee action, West Branch won 38-19.

South Range 45, Lakeview 14

GREENFORD — South Range used an incredible defensive effort to knock off Lakeview, 45-14, Saturday.

The Raiders won their fifth game in a row improve to 11-3 on the season.

Lexi Giles topped South Range with a game-high 19 points. Sophomore Emma Cunningham and Kelly Szolek each had six points.

The Raiders are scheduled to play at Lakeview on Thursday.

Western Reserve 56, Crestview 47

COLUMBIANA–The Crestview Rebels dropped a competitive contest to Western Reserve 56-47 on Saturday. The Rebels trailed by only two entering the final quarter but could not complete a comeback attempt.

For Reserve (10-4), Danielle Vuletich had a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds and Kennedy Miller added 16 points, four rebounds and two steals.

For Crestview Payton Huff had 15 points and Krista Perry had 12 points. Perry added five rebounds and three assists.

In jayvee action, Reserve won 30-17. For Reserve, Lindsay Jones had 11 points and for Crestview, Emily Downey had seven points.

Crestview will host Campbell today.

Sandy Valley 49, United 43

MAGNOLIA — Sandy Valley defeated United in a tightly-contested game 49-43 on Saturday.

It was the second straight loss for the Eagles, who are 10-6.

Abby Parker guided Sandy Valley with a game-high 18 points.

Madison Kibler led United with 13 points. Colby Burton added 11 points and Grace Knight nine.

The Eagles were 5-of-13 from the foul line after the first quarter.

United won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 25-22, behind Grayson Kidder’s 15 points.

The Eagles will host Wellsville on Tuesday.
