Second half dooms United
HANOVERTON — If at first you don’t succeed, trey, trey again.
After shooting 3-of-16 from three-point range in the first half, Beaver Local connected on six three-pointers in the second half to rally past United, 61-53, Monday.
The Beavers trailed by as many as 13 points at 27-14 with less than four minutes left in the second quarter.
Beaver Local closed the gap to 43-38 in the third quarter and outscored the Eagles 23-10 in the fourth quarter.
The Beavers improve to 5-3, while the Eagles drop to 3-6.
Sky Pappas scored 10 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Beavers. Ethan Agnew scored five of his 16 points in the final period. Nathan Barber added 10 points.
United’s Keaton Baker had a game-high 23 points. Nate Miller followed with 15 points and Brutus Ogivlie 11.
The Eagles were 1-of-7 from the foul line, all in the final 17 minutes.
Beaver also won the junior varsity game, 39-27, as freshman Austin Cline scored 18 points. United’s Jack Mercer scored six points.
United will host Wellsville today for a girls-boys doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Beavers play Friday at East Liverpool.

COLUMBIANA — Junior McKenna Schultz had a career night as Crestview raced to a 36-4 halftime lead and beat Campbell Memorial, 72-13, Monday.
The Rebels are 10-7 overall and 3-4 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Tier.
Schultz totaled 10 points and eight rebounds, both career highs.
Also for the Rebels, Krista Perry collected 14 points, three assists and three steals; Ashton Hughes 13 points, five steals and three assists; Payton Huff eight points, five rebounds and five assists; and Mara Halas eight assists and three steals.
The Red Devils, who have seven high school players, trailed 20-2 in the first quarter.
Crestview’s game scheduled for Thursday was posponed due to LaBrae being in COVID-19 quarantine. The Rebels will return to action Monday when they host Newton Falls.
