The Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference had no plans to have a league tournament this season despite COVID-19. The league athletic directors met last year and decided the league championship would be decided by head-to-head matchups.

Salem middle sweeps event

CANAL FULTON — Salem’s middle school wrestling team recently swept the Northwest Invitational with wins over Carrollton, Northwest, Norton and GlenOak.

Salem’s Shawn German, Aiden Stecker, Joey Kana and Dom Jezek all bumped up a weight class for the entirety of the tournament but finished the day undefeated to help the team clinch the title over their competition. Will Harmon and Josh Mayhew also put in impressive performances.

OHSSA announces regional sites

COLUMBUS — The OHSAA high school girls basketball regional tournaments will stay put, but the boys basketball sites are changing this year.

Barberton High School will be hosting the boys and girls regionals.

The Northeast Ohio district champions will be play at Akron Firestone in Division IV and Twinsburg in Division III, while the East district champion advances to Southeastern High School near Chillicothe.

The girls regionals remain the same with the Northeast Ohio district at Massillon Perry in Division IV and Cuyahoga Falls in Division III and the East district at Zanesville High School.
