DeShields gets 300th win as West Branch routs Alliance

BELOIT–Fifth-seeded West Branch waited until the end to celebrate its 54-11 win over Alliance in a Division II sectional final on Saturday.

The Warriors improved to 20-4 and gave Walt DeShields his 300th career win in his 16th season as the Warriors’ head coach. It also was the 600th win for longtime assistant Mike Butcher.

Sophie Gregory led the Warriors with 12 points and six rebounds. Sydney Mercer added 11 points and Anna Lippiatt had eight.

West Branch has won its two tournament games by a combined 121-20. West Branch will play at third-seeded Marlington at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a district semifinal. Marlington swept the regular-season series.
