Salem’s Ziegler ninth at district
GENEVA — No area boys or girls will be going to the state swimming meet this season after district meets wrapped up on Saturday across the state
The Div. II Northeast district meet on Friday at SPIRE featured several local competitors, but none did enough to be one of the 24 top in each event which advanced. Each district qualified the top two finishers in each event automatically and 16 other at-large positions were determined by the best times throughout the state.
In girls action, West Branch senior Jordan Anderson finished 12th in the backstroke (1:02.01) and 50 freestyle (25.33). Her backstroke time was 33rd best in the districts and her 50 freestyle time was 40th best.
South Range senior Maddy Bennett finished 17th in the backstroke (1:03.99) and 25th in the 200 freestyle (2:09.18).
South Range’s girls 200 medley relay took 16th (2:03.9) and the 400 freestyle relay team was disqualified.
Salem junior Hannah Bowers was 30th in the backstroke (1:09.54).
On the boys side, Salem’s Ian Ziegler took ninth in the butterfly (56.51) and 18th in the backstroke (1:00.73). Ziegler’s butterfly time was 52nd best in the districts.
West Branch sophomore Luke Mackall was 12th in the butterfly (58.46).
South Range freshman Rogan Kelly was 20th in the 500 freestyle (5:21.4).
No area swimmer from the Southeast/East/Central district meet at Bowling Green State University on Thursday qualified for state as well.
Beaver Local’s Blaine Havens had the 53rd best time in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.04) to lead area swimmers out of that district.
