Area standouts lead Titans

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — Senior Daniel Ritter (South Range) and freshman Reese Leone (West Branch) each scored a game-high 20 points in leading top-seeded Westminster past No. 6 Thiel, 101-60, in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship Tournament semifinals Thursday night.

Leone added six assists and Ritter five rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block.

Also for the Titans, Senior Anthony Ritter (South Range) hit both of his shots for six points and two rebounds and freshman Andrew Clark (Springfield) collected two points, six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.

Westminster (10-1) will host the PAC Championship game for the second time in three years, meeting No. 4 Grove City (8-3) at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Grove City dumps Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — Five Grove City College men’s basketball players scored in double figures Thursday night to help the fourth-seeded Wolverines rally for a 91-85 victory at No. 2 Geneva in the semifinals of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.

Grove City (8-3) will try to defending its PAC championship at Westminster on Saturday.

Grove City freshman Chris Brooks (South Range) had eight points on 4-of-4 shooting with six rebounds and one block in nine minutes off the bench.

Geneva senior Jake Ford (Springfield) had six points and four rebounds in 16 minutes.

Mount plays tonight

ALLIANCE — Mount Union hosts John Carroll tonight in an Ohio Athletic Conference football showdown that will be seen by few.

Both teams are 1-0 on the 2021 spring season, which came about after the 2020 season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
