Area wrestlers prepare for districts
PERRY — Salem and West Branch will battle it out for Div. II state wrestling berths on Friday and Saturday at Perry High School in Lake County.
Salem has three district berths while West Branch had seven.
The first session featuring the first two championship rounds and first consolation round for weights 106 through 145 will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday. It is slated to wrap up by 3:30 p.m.
The second session featuring the first two championship rounds and first consolation round for weights 152 through 285 will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday. It is slated to wrap up by 8:30 p.m.
Saturday’s first session for weights 106-145 will begin at 10 a.m. It is estimated that past of the tournament will wrap by 1 p.m.
Saturday’s second session for weights 152-285 will begin at 3:30 p.m. and run until around 6:30 p.m.
Livestream.com will stream the event free of charge with action available on five mats on Friday and four on Saturday.
The top four finishers in each weight class will advance to the Div. II state tournament set for March 13-14 at Marengo Highland High School.

GARFIELD HEIGHTS — A large contingent of area Div. III wrestlers will be in action on Friday and Saturday at the district tournament at Garfield Heights High School.
South Range leads area schools with 11 district qualifiers.
Wrestling starts at 2:30 p.m. on Friday with weight classes from 106-145 contesting the first two championship rounds and the first consolation round. Action is slated to wrap by 4:45 p.m.
The second session on Friday featuring those from 152-285 pounds will start at 7:30 p.m. and run until 9:45 p.m. The first two championship rounds and first consolation round will be contested during the time.
Saturday’s first session (106-145) will start at 10 a.m. with consolation bouts. Finals for those classes are slated to start at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday’s second session (152-285) will start at 4 p.m. with consolation bouts. The finals for those classes will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The top four finishers in each class will advance to the Div. III state tournament set for March 13-14 at Marion Harding High School.
