Rhodes, Beck lead Quakers

SALEM — Freshman Carson Rhodes struck out 11 and scattered four hits over six innings in his first varsity appearance and sophomore Darius Beck had four hits, two RBIs and two runs as Salem beat Struthers, 14-4, Saturday.

The Quakers struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Lane Rhodes doubled with two outs and scored on a hard hit ball by Gavin Wilms.

Struthers scored three runs in the third inning, but it didn’t last long.

The Quakers erupted for nine runs of the bottom of the third as they sent 14 men to the plate.

The Quakers improve to 3-1 and will host Crestview today.

Boardman 4, Columbiana 3

BOARDMAN — Boardman scored three runs in the first inning and added an RBI groundout in the fourth to edge Columbiana, 4-3, for its first win Saturday.

Riley McElwain had an RBI double, a single and scored a run for the Clippers. Seth Spooner also had two hits and a run. Brady Dixon had the Clippers’ other hit.

McElwain struck out 10 and scattered five hits over five innings. Freshman Alex Eusebio pitched a scoreless sixth inning in his first varsity action.

Columbiana (1-1) will play at East Liverpool today.

STRUTHERS — The Crestview Rebel baseball team moved to 2-1 (2-0 MVAC) on the season with a 19-4 win over Campbell Memorial at Cene Park on Saturday.

Carter Blakeman led the attack for the Rebels with four hits and two RBIs. Connor Hughes added three hits. Kyle Saunders and Sam Campbell each drove in three runs. Matthew Strank and Matthew Lindsay had two hits apiece.

Eli Riffle earned the win.

James Shuger went 2-for-4 at the plate for Campbell.

The Rebels will travel to Salem today.

EAST CANTON — Jeremiah Kandal and Chase Vacco each drove in two runs as East Canton beat Lisbon, 8-4, Saturday.

Haiden Colvin and Adam Spencer each had two hits for the Blue Devils, who took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Lisbon (1-2) will play at United today.
