Salem drops two at United; Warriors’ Anderson perfect

HANOVERTON — The United softball team went over the .500 mark with a 2-1, 9-1 sweep of Salem in a pair of five-inning games Wednesday.

The Eagles have won five straight games to improve to 10-9 on the season.

Tori Firth earned two complete-game victories, allowing four hits in the first game and only a fifth-inning hit in the second game.

In the opener, the Eagles scored two runs in the third inning on Firth’s RBI double and a passed ball.

Joshlynn Irey, Savannah Burton, Mati Zines and Kassidy Everhart collected singles for the Eagles. First baseman Colby Burton hauled in a high throw to end the fourth inning and save the day.

In the nightcap, Firth and Everhart hit two-run singles and Samantha Lippiatt drove in two runs. Zines singled twice, while Madison Boyle, Savannah Burton and Irey contributed singles.

Salem scored its only runs on a pair of Bella Brant solo home runs.

Salem is scheduled to play at Struthers today. United will host Wellsville on Monday.

WARREN — Jordan Anderson pitched a perfect game as West Branch blanked Howland, 6-0, in six innings Wednesday.

The Warriors are 15-3 overall.

Anderson struck out 10 and did not allow a base runner. She improved her mark to 11-3 on the season, striking out 146 in 85 2/3 innings with a 1.47 ERA.

Kyley Pittmen went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to pace the Warriors. Sydney Mercer had two two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Anderson added a double, a single and an RBI. Destany Blake and Skyler Greeneisen added two hits apiece.

CORTLAND — Bree Kohler tossed a shutout and Samantha Susany went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in South Range’s 7-0 win over Lakeview on Wednesday.

Madison Dado doubled, singled and scored two runs and Jillian Strecansky doubled and scored two runs for the Raiders. Kelly Szoek also had two singles.

The Raiders, ranked eighth in the Division III state poll, improved to 16-3 overall.

COLUMBIANA — Kaedyn Sutton tossed a two-hitter as Crestview blanked Beaver Local, 6-0, Wednesday.

Sutton struck out eight and stranded eight runners on base.

Crestview scored six unearned runs in the fourth inning for all the scoring.

McKenna Schultz doubled and singled and Sutton singled twice for the Rebels. Jensyn Seabrook added a double.

Cierrah Thurik and Lexi Schrieber singled for Beaver Local’s hits.

Crestview improves to 12-7 and will host Girard on Friday
