Canfield smacks Quakers

CANFIELD — Three Salem errors in the first inning led to four unearned runs to put second-seeded Canfield on the way to a 10-0 six-inning win over the 22nd-seeded Quakers in a Division II sectional final Thursday.

The Quakers finally got out of the first inning when Canfield batted out of order.

Lauren Fitzgerald had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs and Bella Kennedy had three hits and two RBIs for the Cardinals. Kennedy got the win on the mound, limiting the Quakers to two hits with three strikeouts.

Canfield improves to 15-6 and will face seventh-seeded Hubbard in a district semifinal Tuesday at Hubbard High School.

Lauryn Barton had a double to deep left field in the second inning for the Quakers. She got to third base, but was thrown out after wondering too far down the line. Hannah Kelm added an infield hit.

The Quakers drop to 7-17 and hosts Marlington today for senior recognition night.

West Branch 2, Perry 0

BELOIT — West Branch’s Jordan Anderson struck out 17 and had a triple to lead the Warriors to a 2-0 win over Perry in a Div. II sectional final on Thursday.

West Branch is 20-6 and advances to meet Aurora at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Jefferson Little League Complex.

Sydney Mercer added a single and double. Destany Blake had a hit and RBI.

West Branch will play at Salem and then Ursuline at Springfield on Saturday.

GREENFORD — South Range’s Bree Kohler struck out 10 and limited Springfield to one hit in a 13-0 five-inning win in a Div. III sectional final on Thursday.

South Range (24-3) will meet Kirtland at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday in a Div. III district semifinal at LaBrae High School.

Kohler, Samantha Susany, Kelly Szolek and Jillian Strecansky each had two hits. Juli Stachowicz had a double and three RBIs.

Emily Gerthung had Springfield’s only hit.

South Range has a regular season game scheduled for today at Girard.

Crestview 1

COLUMBIANA — Newton Falls struck for four runs in the first inning and cruised to a 7-1 win over Crestview in a Div. III sectional final on Thursday.

The Rebels fell to 13-9 on the season.

Emily Knight had two hits including a home run and four RBIs for the winners.

Newton Falls will meet Rootstown in the district semifinal at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the Youngstown State Sports Complex.

Kaedyn Sutton had a double, two singles and an RBI for the Rebels. McKenna Schultz had two hits including a double.

Crestview had a regular season game at LaBrae scheduled for today.
