Salem sets stage for West Branch

CANTON — Salem earned a share of the EBC crown with a 6-0 win over Canton South on Monday.

Gavin Wilms drilled a two-run homer for the Quakers (18-3) and also produced an RBI single.

Salem’s Carson Rhodes had a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings and struck out seven Wildcats.

West Branch 6, Carrollton 0

BELOIT — Garrison Martin and Donavin Conrad combined for a shutout as West Branch blanked Carrollton, 6-0, in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Monday.

West Branch improves to 16-7 overall and 6-3 in league play.

Martin threw six innings for the victory, scattering three hits. Conrad pitched a hitless seventh inning.

Brock Hillyer had two hits and scored two runs for West Branch. Dru DeShields collected a double and two RBIs and Tanner Egli a double, an RBI and two runs.

Parker Varney went 2-for-3 for Carrollton.

West Branch will host EBC leader Salem today.

GREENFORD — South Range put away Jefferson early in a 10-0 win on Monday.

The Raiders got two hits and an RBI from Stevie Rohan. Teammate Billy Skripac tallied one hit in two at-bats, but posted two RBIs.

Michael Markulin recorded two RBIs and two walks for the winners.

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana clipped the wings of United for a 3-2 victory during Monday’s Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference action.

Zachary Pleska went 2-for-3 with a RBI for the Clippers. Teammates Seth Spooner had a RBI in two at-bats as well.

Logan Hoschar pitched four innings while allowing four hits, two runs, and striking out four Eagles.

United’s Parker Berdine pitched a complete game and surrendered seven hits, three runs, and four walks. He added four strikeouts.

SALINEVILLE — Haiden Colvin drove in the winning run with a groundout in the sixth inning to give Lisbon a 5-4 decision over Southern Local in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Monday.

The Blue Devils managed just two singles by Damien McCormick and Jason Steves against Southern pitcher Brock Smalley, but made the most of their opportunites by scoring four runs in the second inning.

Steves drove in two runs and scored another, while Adam Spencer also scored two runs.

McCormick pitched four scoreless innings for the victory.

Timmy West had a hit and two RBIs for the Indians.

Lisbon will host Southern today.

COLUMBIANA — Crestview struggled offensively in a 7-2 loss versus Newton Falls on Monday.

Crestview’s Carter Blakeman went 2 for 4. Kyle Saunders allowed seven hits and six runs through three and a third innings.

Springfield 15, Sebring 2

SEBRING — Springfield poured on the runs for a 15-2 rout at Sebring on Monday.

Ryan Matey and Mitchell Seymour each went 2 for 2 in the win for the Tigers.

Dylan Sheely, Parker Dobson, and Aaron Groner all had three RBIs for Springfield.

Adam Kawecki was the winning pitcher as he pitched two innings, allowed no runs, walked three, and retired a pair on strikes.
