Sebring comes out swinging in sectional

SEBRING — Sebring blew the doors off in the sixth inning for an 8-3 win over Wellsville softball on Monday.

The 16th-seeded Trojans scratched out four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and posted 14 hits on the day.

Olivia Hawk had three hits in four at-bats for Sebring.

Delaney Reggi, Kaylyla Caliguire, and Devyn Reggi all had two hits for the Trojans in the win.

Gia Pucci had three hits and two RBIs for the 17th-seeded Tigers.

Bloomfield 11, Leetonia 6

LEETONIA — No. 15 seed Bloomfield scored three runs in the second inning to take the lead for good and down 12th-seeded Leetonia, 11-6, in a Division IV sectional opener Monday.

Bloomfield openerd up a 6-2 lead before Leetonia closed within 6-4. Bloomfield added three runs in the fifth and two more in the top of the seventh.

Bloomfield will play at at eighth-seeded Badger at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Southern 8, Fairport 5

FAIRPORT HARBOR– Southern Local made the ride worth it.

The 23rd-seeded Indians knocked off 22nd-seeded Fairport Harbor Harding, 8-5, in a Division IV sectional opener Monday.

Southern will play at top-seeded Mathews at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Mathews is ranked fifth in the latest coaches state poll.

Salem 2, Canton South 1

SALEM — Winning pitcher Savannah Schaff allowed only a sixth-inning run as Salem topped Canton South, 2-1, in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Monday.

Dorothy Moore’s single scored Chase Toy in the second inning and Hannah Kelm singled and scored in the third inning on Rylie Troy’s fielder’s choice to account for Salem’s runs.

Jenna McClish, Bella Brant and Chase Toy also had hits for the Quakers.

Salem opens sectional tournament play at Streetsboro at 5 p.m. today.

Marlington 3,

West Branch 2

ALLIANCE — Marlington softball held on for a 3-2 victory over visiting West Branch in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Monday.

Audrey Miller went 2-for-2 with a home run for the Dukes. Teammate Angela Cirone also went 2-fo-2.

West Branch’s Jordan Anderson and Destany Blake both recorded two hits in four at-bats.

Anderson and Ryley Pittman launched solo shots for the Warriors.

West Branch also got six innings from Anderson as she struck out a dozen Dukes and walked three.

Marlington’s Sofia Nase allowed six hits and three walks in seven innings of work.

West Branch will host Ravenna for the sectional tournament at 5 p.m. today.

Columbiana 15, United 11

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past United for a 15-11 win in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Monday.

Columbiana improves to 14-3 overall and is in first place in the EOAC with a 10-1 mark.

United is 11-11 overall, but may see Columbiana again.

The Eagles open Division III sectional tournament play at Rootstown at 5 p.m. today. The winner will play at Columbiana on Thursday.

Winning pitcher Tori Long struck out 16 in 6 2/3 innings of relief. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs. Ava Davanzo contributed three hits, two RBIs and two runs and Julia Rapp had two hits, three RBIs and three runs. Audrey Smith and Mackenzi Gamble added two hits apiece. Cessna Stoy also scored two runs.

The Eagles opened up a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Eagles led 10-6 before the Clippers scored four runs in the fourth and five in the sixth.

For the Eagles, Madison Boyle tripled, singled, drive in three runs and scored another and Tori Firth hit a home run and scored three runs. Mati Zines and Joshlynn Irey each had a hit and two runs.

Boardman 14, Crestview 0

COLUMBIANA — Boardman tacked on runs left and right during a 14-0 win against Crestview on Monday.

Rae Sam Hoffman and Nadia Rawhneh each had three hits in three at-bats for the Spartans.

Jenna Olexa went 2 or 4 with a team-high four RBIs for Boardman. Teammate Dana Haus also went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Boardman pitcher Madison Lester worked two innings, walked zero, and struck out two as she got the win.
