West Branch perfect in NET

BELOIT — West Branch blanked Lordstown, 5-0, in girls tennis action Saturday. The Warriors improve to 11-2 overall and 8-0 in the North East Tennis League. The Red Devils drop to 0-6 and 0-5 NET.

West Branch will play at Lordstown on Tuesday.

FIRST SINGLES: Allison Zion (WB) def. Carly DeBarnardo, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 10-8.

SECOND SINGLES: Liana Gabrelcik (WB) def. Ane Zubia, 6-1, 6-2.

THIRD SINGLES: Lily Ann Bonar (WB) def. Dani Lickwar, 6-3, 6-4.

FIRST DOUBLES: Samantha Tubbs-Sydney Fetters (WB) won by forfeit.

SECOND DOUBLES: Megan Loudon-Kate Slutz (WB) won by forfeit.

Burkey hits hole-in-one

COLUMBIANA — Ted Burkey of New Springfield got his first hole-in-one at Valley Golf Club on Sunday.

He used an 8-iron to ace the 140-yard second hold.

Burkey was playing in Valley’s Club Championship Tournament with L.K. Kegelmyer of Lisbon and Bill Kegelmyer of Leetonia.

Chester adds another title

CHESTER, W.Va. — Chester Old Timers captured the Youngstown 50-Plus Baseball League championship for the second straight year and seventh time in 11 years.

Due to a COVID-19 outbreak among other teams, Chester as awarded the 2021 championship because of its17-1 record and regular-season championship.

Chester only gave up 22 runs in 18 games and had a team batting average of .443.

Leading hitters for Chester this season were Doug Comm with a .538 batting average, Dave Smith .492, Dan Eckleberry .482, Brian Six .472, Mike Logston .454 and Steve Bell .428.

Pitcher Bill Sattler had an 8-0 record and Dave Smith a 9-1 record.

8th Grade: United won 25-3, 25-4. United, Julia Sanor 15 points, Auriana Cusick 10, Marin Stryffeler 7.
