Quakers set the standard

SALEM — Cory Plunkett scored a second-half goal to lift Salem over West Branch, 1-0, in boys soccer action Tuesday.

Jon Null had three saves in goal for the shutout.

Salem improves to 10-5-1 on the season and secured second place in the Eastern Buckeye Conference with a 5-1 mark.

It’s the first time since 2013 Salem has had double-digit wins.

The 12th-seeded Quakers will host 14th-seeded Louisville in a Division II sectional tournament opener at 6 p.m. Oct. 19.

VOLLEYBALL

Crestview 3,

Heartland 0

COLUMBIANA — Crestview capped a perfect regular season with a 25-10, 25-17, 25-18 win over Heartland on Tuesday.

The Rebels are 22-0 and are ranked seventh in Div. III in the latest Ohio Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Crestview hosts Waterloo on Tuesday in the Div. III sectional opener. The Rebels were the No. 1 overall seed in the two district seeding process.

For the Rebels, Lucy Montogomery had 10 kills, 11 assists and 10 digs. Abbey Emch had nine kills and four blocks. Shelby Rambo had eight kills and two blocks. Grace Auer had four kills and 12 assists. Lainey Mercure had 14 digs, three aces and two blocks. Emily Downey had 10 digs.

For the Lions, Lauren Miasek had 10 kills, three points and three digs, Emma Hall eight kills, eight points, three aces, 20 digs and two blocks and Elise Wintersteller four kills.

Heartland (7-10) will host Lowellville on Thursday.

Crestview won the jayvee match, 25-13, 25-8 as Katie Lissi had six kills and Alyssa Smotherman 10 assists.

For Heartland, Dena Arthurs had six points and nine digs, Zoe Matthews four assists and two kills and Julia Denny 15 digs.

Columbiana 3, Springfield 0

COLUMBIANA –Columbiana had no trouble with Springfield in a 25-20, 25-17, 25-11 win on Tuesday.

For the Clippers (16-5), Julia Rapp had 10 kills, five aces, 15 digs and 10 points. Tori Long had three kills, two blocks, four aces, 15 digs and 10 digs. Ava Heinrich had five kills, four aces, eight digs and eight points. Ellie Jackson had eight digs, nine assists and 11 points. Camille Zentner had five kills. Liv Cmil had 12 digs.

Columbiana is at Jackson-Milton on Thursday.

West Branch 3,

Minerva 0

BELOIT — Adele Peters served 27 points with seven aces as West Branch swept Minerva, 25-19, 25-21, 25-13, in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Tuesday.

The Warriors improve to 18-3 overall and 9-2 in league play.

Sydney Mercer contributed 13 kills, Hannah Rush 22 assists and Adele Peters was the defensive leader.

West Branch also won the junior varsity match, 25-7, 26-24, as Taiva Hagan had 13 points with two aces.

West Branch will close out the regular season at Marlington on Thursday.

Lisbon 3, Urban Scholars 0

LISBON — Lisbon defeated Urban Scholars 25-4, 25-4, 25-6

For Lisbon, Eliza Baker had 26 points, 16 aces and eight kills.

Parker Henthorne and Madison Marriner had nine points and five aces each.

Mya Emmerling and Kelsi Burns had four kills each.

Brooklynn Cousins had 17 assists.

Lisbon (6-12) is at Jackson Milton today.

Salem 3, Carrollton 0

SALEM — Salem’s volleyball team spiked Carrollton 25-23, 25-21, 25-22 on Tuesday in Eastern Buckeye Conference action.

Western Reserve 3, Sebring 0

SEBRING — Western Reserve wrapped up the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Division title with a 25-11, 25-10, 25-20 win over Sebring on Tuesday.

Lisa Eichert had eight kills and seven digs for the winnter. Angelina Cappabianca added seven kills, seven digs and seven aces.

Western Reserve is 19-2 and 13-1 in the league.

Sebring is 9-12 and 2-11.

The Devils host Wellsville on Thursday in a game that will be televised live on MyYTV at 7 p.m.
