Crismon wins 100th with Clips
COLUMBIANA — The celebration begin early for the Columbiana Clippers in Thursday’s Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opener.
Columbiana scored the first 35 points and handed coach Dave Crismon his 100th career victory as a Clipper in a 70-6 win over Leetonia.
Crismon is 100-43 (a 70% winning percentage) in seven seasons as Columbiana’s head coach.
Ava Heinrich led all scorers with 17 points, all 17 in the opening eight minutes. Sydney Spaite added 12 points and Ellie Venezia nine. Eleven Clippers got in the scoring column.
Columbiana jumped ahead 21-0 on a Megan Moser three-pointer only 3:12 into the game.
Ava Heinrich added a three-pointer to push the lead to 35-0 with 6:00 left in the second quarter. It gave Heinrich 17 points at that point.
Taylor Chapman scored Leetonia’s first points off an offensive rebound with five minutes to play in the first half.
The Clippers led 51-4 through two quarters and 61-6 through three quarters.
Columbiana improved to 5-0 heading into Monday’s home game against East Palestine.
Leetonia is 0-3 overall.

United 43, East Palestine 13
EAST PALESTINE — The United girls played like a team going after a fourth straight Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title.
The Eagles opened EOAC play by jumping ahead 37-2 at halftime and rolled over East Palestine, 43-13.
United improves to 1-2 overall, while East Palestine lost its third straight to fall to 1-3.
Maelee Smith topped the Eagles with a game-high 15 points, four rebounds and six steals. Bailey McKenzie totaled 10 points, five rebounds and four steals. Reagan Good added six points and seven rebounds and Allyson Lacey dished out four assists.
Jacklyn Ogle led East Plaestine with seven points and seven rebounds.
Both teams play Saturday with United at Warren JFK and East Palestine at Wellsvile.
East Palestine will play a girls-boys doubleheader beginning with the girls game at 11 a.m.

Wellsville 53, Lisbon 30
LISBON — History was waiting for Wellsville senior Bella Poppelriter.
Poppelriter scored 29 points in becoming the fifth girl in Wellsville history to reach 1,000 career points during Thursday’s 53-30 win over Lisbon in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opener.
She reached the milestone in the second quarter and now has 1,020 points.
Sophomore Mackenzie Bosco also had a big night with a career-high 15 points and seven rebounds. Myleigh Jackson scored nine points to round out the Wellsville scoring. Poppelriter also grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Tigers outscored the Blue Devils in every quarter to pull away.
Eme Cook topped Lisbon with 12 points on four three-pointers. Lylah Brown contributed nine points.
Both teams are 1-2 overall.
There was no junior varsity game.
Wellsville will host East Palestine in a girls-boys doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. Lisbon entertains United on Monday.
