Rhodes, Gaskins garner more milestones

COLUMBIANA — It was a night for milestones as the Crestview girls basketball team defeated Garfield 57-11 on Thursday.
Senior Luvrain Gaskins, already a 1,000-point scorer, reached the 1,000 rebound mark for her career, while junior Addison Rhodes saw her school-record streak of 33 straight free throws made come to an end. The previous Rebel best was Kami Guy who made 22 straight in the 1990-91 season.
Rhodes had 24 points and three steals in the win. Kerrigan Miller added three assists, while Brianna DiCross had seven assists and three steals.
Crestview won the jayvee game, 55-10. Brianna Baker had 18 points, while Lainey Milhoan added 12 points and Katie MacKay 10 points.
Crestview is 10-3 and will be at LaBrae on Tuesday.

COLUMBIANA — Edison knocked off Heartland Christian 60-50 on Thursday in girls basketball action.
Emily McDowell and Sarah Reynolds had 12 points each for the Lions.
Heartland fell to 7-6 and will play at Lake Center Christian on Saturday.

SALEM — Jameka Brungard had 17 points to lead Springfield Local to a 41-32 victory over Salem on Thursday in girls basketball action.
Kendall Maughan added 13 points for the winners, 6-7.
Reese Davidson-Chuck had 14 points and six rebounds for the Quakers, while Muirin Lesko had six rebounds.
Salem fell to 6-7 and will play at Poland on Monday.
Salem won the jayvee game, 31-19. Peyton Colbert scored 19 points for the Quakers.

HANOVERTON — Freshman Maelee Smith had 29 points, six rebounds and four steals as United took care of East Palestine 47-16 on Thursday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference action.
Freshman Reagan Good added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles, 7-6, 7-1. Maezie French had four rebounds and four steals.
Jacklyn Ogle had six points for the Bulldogs, 3-10, 1-7.
United will host Marlington Saturday.

Wellsville 44, Lisbon 41
WELLSVILLE — Wellsville survived 18 missed free throws to beat Lisbon, 44-41, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Thursday.
Bella Poppelriter led the Tigers with a game-high 21 points, nine rebounds and seven steals. Myleigh Jackson collected 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals before fouling out early in the fourth quarter. Kenzie Bosco added nine points and eight rebounds and Johnnie Tice grabbed seven rebounds.
The Tigers improve to 6-7 overall and 5-3 in the EOAC. The Blue Devils lost their sixth straight to fall to 3-10 and 2-6 in league play.
Lisbon closed within 41-39 with 2:07 remaining. Wellsville made three free throws in the final 58 seconds for a 44-39 lead until Lisbon added a layup with six seconds to play. The Tigers missed nine free throws in the fourth quarter and finished 14-of-32 from the foul line.
Lisbon freshman Bridgett Newbold scored a team-high 20 points. Lylah Brown contributed eight points.
Lisbon will host Toronto on Saturday, while Wellsville visits Valley Christian on Monday.

LEETONIA — Columbiana is going to be tough to beat in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Confernce.
The Clippers beat Leetonia, 74-16, Thursday.
Columbiana improves to 13-0 overall and 7-0 in the EOAC. The Clippers have won every league game by at least 29 points.
Both teams return to league play Monday as Columbiana visits East Palestine and Leetonia travels to Southern on Monday.

BOYS
Garfield 60, Crestview 35
COLUMBIANA — Garrettsville Garfield maintained the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Tier lead by running past Crestview, 60-35, Thursday.
Garfield, which opened up a 32-13 halftime lead, improves to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the MVAC, tied with LaBrae.
Tanner Guy paced the Rebels with eight points.
Crestview drops to 3-8 and 1-3 in league play. The Rebels will be at Labrae on Monday.
In the junior varsity game, Crestview rallied from a 23-18 halftime deficit for a 54-43 win. Dylan Stoffer scored 14 points and Carter Love 13 for the Rebels.
