East Liverpool gangs up on United Local

EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool’s girls basketball team was on the ball on its senior day as the Potters flew past United 54-38 on Saturday.

Kenzie Headley sparked the Potters (8-12) with 21 points. Kambria Sell and Cate Davis added seven points each.

For the Eagles, Marin Stryffeler had 14 points, two steals and two rebounds. Ally Lacey added eight points, five assists and three steals. Maelee Smith had seven points and eight rebounds. Reagan Good had four points and six rebounds.

East Liverpool will be at Cambridge today.

United (12-9) will host Columbiana today in a game which will decided the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference championship. Columbiana leads by a game. The Eagles can get a share of the EOAC title with a win.

United will play on Feb. 12 at McDonald in its Div. VI tournament opener.

East Liverpool will play on Feb. 13 at Maysville for its Div. IV East District tournament opener.

Canfield 35,

West Branch 31

CANFIELD — In a clash of two of the best teams in Mahoning County, Canfield’s girls basketball team prevailed with a 35-31 win over West Branch on Saturday.

West Branch falls to 16-2, while Canfield moves to 19-1.

The Cardinals, who ended up with the best MaxPreps RPI in Div. IV in Northeast Ohio, led 13-12 at the half.

Canfield’s lead grew to double digits in the third quarter before West Branch got back in to the game.

Auton Eaton and Mati Hawk had eight points each for the Warriors. Hallie Vie Burton added six points.

Canfield won the jayvee game 27-10.

West Branch hosts New Philadelphia today.

The Warriors earned the No. 6 seed in the Div. IV tournament and will host Cleveland East Tech in its sectional on Feb. 15. The winner will get the winner of Salem-Struthers in the district semifinal.

Salem 44, Woodridge 30

PENINSULA — Salem’s girls basketball team got 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals from Reese Davidson-Chuck in a 44-30 win over Woodridge on Saturday.

Rylee Davidson Chuck added 11 points, while Abby Knickerbocker had nine points and five rebounds.

Salem (9-11) hosts Canton South on Wednesday.

The Quakers will host Struthers in a Div. IV tournament game on Feb. 15.

BERLIN CENTER — East Palestine’s girls basketball team suffered a 71-21 loss to Western Reserve on Saturday.

The Bulldogs are 5-16 and are at Toronto Wednesday for the regular season finale.

Emma Gingher had six points and four rebounds for the Bulldogs. Jacklyn Ogle had five boards, while Kami Kridler had four assists and three steals.

East Palestine will be at Dalton on Feb. 15 for its Div. VI tournament opener.

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s Ally Wright had 20 points, nine rebounds and four steals to carry the Beavers to a 63-39 win over Brooke on Saturday.

Beaver Local is 7-13 and is at Weir High today.

Calli Sorge had 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and eight steals. Mallory Miller had seven points and four steals. Lora Reeder had six points and eight rebounds. Tori Druschel had six points, five rebounds and four steals.

No jayvee game was played.

Beaver Local will play its Div. IV sectional contest on Feb. 13 at Minerva.

BROOKFIELD — Brookfield’s girls basketball team bested Lisbon 54-43 on Saturday.

Brookfield is 3-15.

Lisbon is 6-14 and will play a day game against Liberty on Wednesday.

The Blue Devils will open the Div. VII tournament on Feb. 15 against Mathews at Lisbon.
