United bowlers come up short
KENT — United’s girls bowling team finished seventh out of 13 teams on Monday during the Div. II sectional tournament at Spins Bowl.
Only the top four teams qualified for the district tournament. Rootstown (3,148), Garfield (3,112), East Canton (3,098) and Triway (2,953) were the four teams that advanced to the district.
United had 2,822 as a team. Zariah Elrod finished 17th for the Eagles with a 172 high game and a 447 series. Hall Burton was 22nd with a 155 high game and a 417 series. Lauren Painter was 27th with a 410 series.
Individual qualifiers not on a qualifying team included Canton Central Catholic’s Frances Palaski (544) and Jessica Jenkins (506) as well a Springfield’s Aubrianna Buchwald (507) and Our Lady of Elms’ Jane Then (464).

West Branch 39,
Howland 32
BELOIT — West Branch’s girls basketball season ended its regular season at 20-2 with a 39-32 win over Howland on Monday.
Audrey Eaton led the Warriors with 10 points.
West Branch trailed at the end of the first three quarters and outscored the Tigers 10-2 in the final frame to get the win.
Mati Hawk’s three at the end of the third quarter cut the lead to one. Howland scored its last points with just over seven minutes to play.
Hawk finished with nine points. Carter Shepherd had six points.
West Branch will host Cleveland East Tech in a Div. IV tournament sectional on Saturday.

McDonald 65,
Heartland 48
MCDONALD — Juliana Krumpak had 30 points and set a school record with eight threes in a game as McDonald dumped Heartland 65-48 on Monday.
McDonald finished the season 14-8 and will host United on Wednesday in a sectional opener.
Heartland is 10-9 and will play at Valley on Wednesday in a regular season game. The Lions will also host Valley on Saturday in a Div. VII tournament game.
Emme Mathews led the Lions with 25 points. Sarah Reynolds and Rachel Reynolds had seven points each.

BOYS
Springfield 65,
East Palestine 26
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield’s boys basketball team had its way with East Palestine on its senior night as the Tigers came away with a 65-26 win on Monday.
East Palestine is 8-10 and will host Rootstown today. The Bulldogs will also travel to Southern on Wednesday.
Springfield is 11-10.
East Palestine will be at Newton Falls for its opening round tournament game on Feb. 21.
