COLUMBUS — Three area girls wrestlers found their way to the podium on Sunday at the third annual Ohio High School Athletic Association girls state wrestling tournament at the Schottenstein Center.

United Local junior Auston Brown carved out a third-place finish at 125 pounds to become a three-time state-placer for the Eagles. It took a bounce-back from a second round loss on Saturday to do so.

In the third-place final, Brown (46-7) topped Lacie Knick in a 16-7 major decision. In the consolation semifinal earlier on Sunday, Brown was awarded a forfeit victory over East Liverpool’s Paige Cowan.

Brown was also third in 2024 and fourth in 2023 in the same weight class.

On Saturday, United’s Dakota McCracken and Cowan and both reached the championship semifinals only to be turned back.

McCracken fell to Indian Lake’s Maddie Miller by a pin in 1:13 in Saturday’s semifinal, but came back on Sunday to win pin Liberty-Benton’s Evie Parmelee in 4:04 in the consolation semifinal. In the third-place match, Archbold’s Gabby Oregon pinned McCracken (19-5) in 1:12.

McCracken ended her career at United as a four-time state-placer. She was seventh in 2024, third in 2023 and third in 2022 in the same weight class. The 2022 state wrestling tournament was run by the state’s wrestling coaches’ association.

Cowan, who got to the semifinal by way of wild 29-15 major decision over previously unbeaten Knick, was beaten by Lakota West’s Kelsey King in the semifinal on a 19-3 technical fall on Saturday. In the loss to King, Cowan (48-9) injured her ankle and had to medically forfeit her two matches on Sunday to take sixth.

The Potter was eighth at 110 pounds last season.
