East Liverpool runners off to national meet

EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool school-record runners Julius Jones and Maddox Roach are spending St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Boston.

Both are heading to the New Balance Indoor Nationals after hitting qualifying times with third-place finishes at the Ohio Association of Track and Cross County Coaches Association 2025 indoor high school state championship on Friday.

Jones, a senior who set a school record in finishing sixth in the 800 meters at the state track meet in June, ran 1:57.03 to advance to the national meet. He will run around 5:30 p.m. Saturday against 230 half-milers.

Roach, a junior, smashed a 44-year-old school record in the 1600 meters by 6 seconds in a time of 4:19.29 last weekend. He will be running around 10:45 a.m. Sunday against a field of 200.

The meet will be held at the TRACK at New Balance, a 455,000-square-foot facility near Boston Landing commuter rail station. The facility that holds 5,000 spectators opened in 2022.

Starting at $2.99/week.
