Eagles bombard Lions

HANOVERTON — United beat the weather on a chilly Tuesday.
The Eagles scored at least three runs in every inning — nine different Eagles scored — to beat Heartland Christian, 18-1, in five innings.
Chloe Angelo had three hits, including a triple, with three runs and two RBIs. Josie Wargo hit a home run with four RBIs and four runs scored. Grace Coffee also went 2-for-2 and scored two runs.
Peyten Kekel scored three runs and Allyson Lacey walked four times and scored two runs. Callie Koons and Kekel both drove in two runs.
Jillian Dietrich was the winning pitcher, scattering three hits with six strikeouts and no walks in four innings. Coffee pitched the final inning, striking out two and walking two.
The Eagles improve to 10-1 on the season.
Gabby McDowell scored Heartland’s run. Natalie Barrow, Calleigh Shodd and Emily McDowell had hits for the Lions.
Emily McDowell was the losing pitcher as allowed seven runs, five earned, with no strikeouts and three walks in one-plus innings.
United hosts East Palestine on Thursday.
Heartland is 2-3.

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana’s softball team had no trouble in doubleheader sweep of East Palestine on Tuesday.
The Clippers won the first game 14-0 in four innings. Caitlynn Pleska had a home run, single and four RBIs for the winners. Alivia Bell had a home run, single and six RBIs. Addison Brode also hit a home run.
Brode was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Kennedy Andre was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts and five walks in three innings.
Columbiana won the second game 11-6 in five innings. Pleska had a double with two RBIs. Alivia Bell had two doubles. Landry Smith had two hits and two RBIs. Peyton Stoy was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts and five walks.
Alivia Magness was the losing pitcher with a strikeout and four walks.
Taylor Foster had two hits for the Bulldogs.
Columbiana is 9-5 and 5-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.
The Clippers host Leetonia today.
East Palestine (1-4, 0-3) and is at Lisbon on Monday.

Salem at Carrollton
CARROLLTON — Salem’s softball team trailed Carrollton 17-11 in the sixth in a game that was suspended because of darkness on Tuesday.
Salem is at West Branch on Thursday.
