Arrest made in 2012 Melinda Todd death

LISBON — Nearly seven years after Melinda Todd was beaten to death with an object in her Salem Township home, Kevin E. Kirby has been charged with aggravated murder in connection to it.

Chief Assistant County Prosecutor John Gamble said the prosecutor’s office investigators teamed up with two investigators from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office for two years in order to solve the 2012 cold case homicide. The investigation led to grand jury indicting Kirby last week.

The 44-year-old Kirby is also charged with attempted murder for allegedly causing severe injuries to Todd’s 5-year-old grandson as well as with tampering with evidence.

At the age of 43, Todd was found dead in her state Route 45 home south of Salem in the late afternoon of Dec. 3, 2012. The cause of death was later determined to be from a blunt instrument. Her grandson had also been attacked and had severe head injuries but survived the ordeal, going through multiple surgeries and months of physical therapy.
