Walmart cleared after bomb scare

SALEM -- Police evacuated shoppers and employees from Walmart and directed them to the north end of the parking lot near State Street/state Route 14 while investigating a bomb threat late Thursday afternoon.

The fire department stayed with evacuees outside while police officers and store managers searched the store for anything unusual. Nothing was found and shoppers and employees were permitted to return inside a short time later.

Police were called to the scene at 5:05 p.m. after the bomb threat was found written on a wall of the ladies restroom, similar to a previous bomb threat incident.

The incident is under investigation.
