The new Dollar General store opened at 1000 W. State St. on Wednesday. Construction on the store started on Oct. 3. Another store is proposed for 1297 Pidgeon Road and if built will give Dollar General three stores in the Salem area, along with the Salem Plaza at 2350 E. State St. With Wednesday’s opening, the downtown store at 514 E. State St. was closed and employees from that store were relocated to the new store. (Salem News photo by Larry Shields)
