PERRY TWP. -- Trustees agreed Monday to go forward with plans for a township website that could include information about zoning, the police, fire and road departments and informational items about events, such as the current cleanup or meeting dates.
Trustees agreed to pay a $275 downpayment to Salem Computer Center to get started on the website, which zoning inspector Allan Wolfgang said could take six to eight weeks to set up.
He recommended trustees contract with Salem Computer Center at a cost of $549 this year to get set up, with the price including hosting fees. Thereafter, he said the cost will total $154 per year. They'll be able to make changes but if they need assistance, the cost will be $35 per hour. Wolfgang had approached the trustees about the idea and did the research on costs, saying he gets questions on zoning and this would be a way to have information readily available to the public.
"I think it would be a good thing," Trustee Don Rudibaugh said.
In other business, road supervisor Darreck Farrell said the spring cleanup was going well, with the exception of residents trying put out recyclable material. Anything recyclable, such as plastic bottles, newspapers or other items, should be taken to the recyclable containers next to the Salem Fire Department building on South Ellsworth Avenue.
The cleanup started on the north side of the unincorporated area north of State Street last week and started in the unincorporated area on the south side on Monday. Farrell advised residents should have all their stuff out by tonight, because the workers can't cover the whole township every day and be able to get everything picked up. They'll be done Friday.
Trustee Chair Cliff Mix reminded residents the cleanup is limited to one truckload per household and items must be placed curbside with bags and items able to be lifted by one person. No items with freon and no televisions or computers will be accepted. Passenger car tires and small truck tires will be collected, off the rims, but will be picked up separately. Also Farrell asked that anyone placing sticks out to use the brown biodegradeable bags.

Farrell said the crew is working on preparing Cider Mill and Pine Lake roads for chip and seal and also the length of Stewart. Those are also the roads that will get line striped this year. Stewart Road will only get line striped if it gets chip and seal.
Mix announced that the Columbiana County Board of Elections is looking for poll workers and suggested anyone interested in the township can call the Board of Elections for information.
The trustees had no objection to a beer and wine license for carryout for the new Dollar General being built on Pidgeon Road.
Mix said he and the other trustees need to meet with county Engineer Bert Dawson regarding a water issue on Stewart Road. A couple of property owners had come to the last meeting to complain about flooding.
Fiscal Officer Susan Johnston announced that the Board of Zoning Appeals approved a variance requested for an oversized garage being built on Jennings Avenue. The hearing was last week.
The next Board of Trustees meeting will be 6:30 p.m. May 14.
